Spring Break / Primary Mystery Book Month

Hope you all have a wonderful and restful break!

All grades are able to continue borrowing library books and magazines over the Spring break.  Please keep in mind however that if you are going on a holiday, it is best to leave them at home until you return.  Books taken on holiday is the prime time for lost materials!

As I promised the primary children a mystery book month, April will be the month for Primary  “Mystery Picture Books”.

We are preparing them now to be ready for checking out in April on your return to school!

World Read Aloud Day

Thank you to Ms Ludlow, a local author who has written and self published four “Crystal Journey” Series books.  She was welcomed to Aubrey on February 1st to talk to children from grade 3-7 about her writing process, publishing and her upcoming books!

If you want to read some of her books, we have the first 3 books in the Aubrey library of the Crystal Journey series.

Borrowing over the Holidays

Hello Aubrey community!

This year Ms Ho and Mrs Stocker are allowing all students to borrow books over the winter holidays.  We are expecting that everyone will be responsible in taking care of the borrowed material and continue to keep the literature away from food and all liquids.

Should you be lucky enough to be speeding off to a sunnier location or visiting family overseas, PLEASE DO NOT TAKE BOOKS WITH YOU!  This is very often when borrowed materials get lost or forgotten!

Lastly, should you have books that you have finished with, please return them before Friday December 21st.  When you are no longer reading them, books tend to get forgotten so please bring them back before the holidays if you are finished with them!

Many thanks and have a safe and joyous holiday with those you love.

Kitting Club Christmas Project

Our knitting club is doing fantastic!  They have all been so committed and work very hard at improving their knitting each week.  Now that the children are much more confident in casting on and doing the basic stitch, Mrs Reid our knitting teacher has proposed we begin a Christmas knitting project starting next week!

The children are very excited about this to be able to work toward a finished project…. hopefully in time to wrap up and give as a gift for the holiday season.  I will keep the project a secret, but if anyone has any extra green shades of yarn they can donate, it would be graciously received.

Welcome Back

Welcome back to school!  I hope everyone had a restful summer break and is ready for another great year.

Over the summer I read a few books that I have been wanting to read for some time now!  I am so excited to hear what you have read whether it be novels, great new magazines, newspapers?  picture books, graphic novels?

Below I have highlighted titles, and a score out of 5 (my personal opinion of course) I read over the summer:

“The Nest”                                         – Quick read/ A bit scary… interesting idea – 3/5

“York: The shadow Cipher”           – Good story but took a while to get into.  I like the idea of futuristic ciphers!  3/5

“Rain Reign”                                     – Easy to read and I did real like I really got to know/got insight into the main character with high functioning autism.

Currently reading “Cinder” and “The Gift of Dyslexia”

What have you read…..????  Any recommendations for others?
