Here are some questions that you may have about the library:
Q: When will students be in the library?
Each class will have a weekly scheduled time to visit the library. This will be a time when they listen to a story, learn a library skill, or participate in another library activity and have a chance to check out new books. The schedule for weekly library visits is:
- Monday: Division 2 (Ms. Shirley), Division 3 (Ms. Mitchell), Division 4 (Ms. Smith)
- Tuesday: Division 5 (Ms. Brooks), Division 6 (Ms. McKenzie), Division 8 (Ms. Fong), Division 10 (Ms. Perry), Division 13 (Ms. Catungal)
- Wednesday: Division 7 (Mr. Smyth), Division 9 (Ms. Boyd/Ms. Chao), Division 11 (Ms. D’Agnolo), Division 12 (Ms. Gatenby), Division 14 (Ms. Singh/Ms. Daoust)
- Thursday: Division 1 (Mr. Angst)
If it is not their library day, students may come to the library to get new books during open book exchange times or after school.
Students may also be in the library if their class is working on a special project or unit with me.
Q: How many books can students check out at one time?
- Kindergarten: one book
- Grades 1-5: two books
- Grades 6/7: three books
Q: How long may students keep their books?
Books are due back to the library two weeks from the date they are checked out. Books can be renewed if a student is not done with them, but the books must come back to the library so I can renew them. I encourage students to bring back their books every week so that they get in the habit.
Q: What happens if a library book is lost?
If a book is lost, do not panic! Check your car, backpack, desk, and bedroom. If you truly feel it is gone for good, let me know and we can work out the best possible solution together.
Q: What happens if a library book is damaged?
Again, do not panic! Place it in a bag and send it back to the library. Please do not attempt to repair the damage yourself. I will assess the damage once the book is returned and may be able to repair it.
