I often have people come and ask me if I “can recommend a good book”. Wow. That is a really tricky one. I can recommend many good books – or at least books that I think are good. That I have enjoyed. With the kind of story I like. But that’s where it gets tricky. Because the type of story I most enjoy might not be what you enjoy. And I probably won’t be able to personally recommend many other kinds of story because they are definitely not what I enjoy. This is where we can talk about genre. Genre is a type: romance, mystery, science fiction, fantasy, and so on. Many books are a blending of more than one genre, but usually, one is predominant. Learn more here and here.
This year, for Mountain Reads, instead of focusing on a few books, we will look at a different genre each month. To start, for October, fantasy books will be highlighted. But do not fear! These are not all ‘princess rescued from a dragon by a handsome prince’ stories. Within the genre of fantasy, there are many sub-genres; you should be able to find at least one that will grab your interest. Come to the LLC to learn more about the fantasy genre and to find a book in a sub-genre you are already familiar with or to try something completely new!
