Mountain Reads 2018/19 will begin this week. Get ready to check out the 10 titles for the year. This year we’ll be sharing one book with the other Burnaby secondary schools. This Burnaby Reads title is an Indigenous sci-fi thriller, The Marrow Thieves. Winner of the 2017 Governor General’s Literary Awards for Young People’s Literature and a 2018 selection for CBC’s Canada Reads, among other honours, The Marrow Thieves looks to a dystopian near-future:
In a futuristic world ravaged by global warming, people have lost the ability to dream, and the dreamlessness has led to widespread madness. The only people still able to dream are North America’s Indigenous people, and it is their marrow that holds the cure for the rest of the world. But getting the marrow, and dreams, means death for the unwilling donors. (GoodReads)
