It’s official – I have a new favourite author (at least in the world of YA fiction): Marcus Sedgwick. I started and finished the newest one in the library, ‘She Is Not Invisible‘ yesterday. Obviously not a long or dense read, but I couldn’t put it down till it was finished. Take a mystery, adventure, and physics and psychology, and combine them with great characters and New York City. I was hooked. Not to mention a story that ends at the end of the book! Sedgwick is known for atmospheric, rather creepy stories. This one gets its atmosphere through the eyes of the main character, Laureth, 16 and blind from birth. Laureth takes her 7-year-old brother and they fly from London to New York to find their missing father. Somewhat different than his other books, this story is just as intriguing. I’ll just mention another of his books which will be on the new Mountain Reads 2015 list – ‘Midwinterblood‘. It’s a series of interconnected short stories going through time – definitely creepier than the other, but another page turner. Now, I’m not normally a creepy-story lover, but there’s something about Marcus Sedgwick – I hope you’ll give him a try. We also have several of his older books as well.
