During our collaboration blocks with the English and French Kindergarten classes this year we have been working on our story-making skills. We began by closely examining many story books in the library and in the classroom, breaking down the main components of the story: Setting, Characters, Beginning, Middle, End.
The students used loose parts to play and build their stories, recording their results orally and adding words where able. Teachers observed, gave suggestions, encouraged students and helped with scribing and recording. Students then drew pictures to accompany their story and any words (scribed or self-written) provided.
Finally, students shared their stories in small groups and some with the whole class. It was a fun and very engaging process, they students loved becoming authors and sharing their work.
