Coronavirus: Vancouver’s Stanley Park to reopen to vehicle traffic Monday

Be sure to watch the relevant videos embedded in the article regarding the reopening of Stanley park to vehicles.

Think:

What are the arguments of business owners in Stanley Park?  Cyclists?

What are the concerns about opening the park up to vehicular traffic?

Why are some people frustrated with the parks board and their decision?

What role does democracy have in this … or is it simply a parks board decision?

Do:

There are two issues here; whether or not Stanley park should be open at all to vehicular traffic, and how this decision has come about and whether or not all the people that should be involved were consulted.

Think about your stance in one of these issues and write a letter to the parks board explaining your thoughts.

Read: President Trump & Snapchat

THINK:

Considering current worldwide protests, where do you stand on President Trumps social media comment “when the looting starts, the shooting starts.” What do you think his intention was?  What are your thoughts on how various social media platforms responded to it?  What would you have done if you were on Snapchat, Facebook or Twitter policy committees?

DO:

Research where President Trump got this phrase from; it may not have been his own…

From whom did this phrase originate from and in what circumstances were they in?

WATCH: “Time and Space” Video

(welcome to read the article as well)

THINK:

This video mentions Albert Einsteins theory that time and space are related in a space-time continuum in which scientists explore the possibility of travelling forward of back ward in time.  If this became a reality, what would be the positive and negative consequences of this?  What time travel adventure would you go on and for what purpose?  What might be the consequences of that journey?

DO:

Begin a little research on the following 3 theories of how space and time are interconnected: String Theory, Loop Quantum Gravity, and Casual-Set Theory.  What other theories are there that provide a greater understanding of the space-time continuum?  Is there one that you find intriguing/probable?
