DOUGLAS COLLEGE UPDATES

UPDATE 1 – Financial Aid:  Applications for our Entrance Scholarships are open now!  

  • Deadline to submit application is April 1st 
  • Deadline to submit all supporting documents is April 7th
  • Once the student is admitted and has a student # they can access the application through My Account – Financial Aid – Award Applications – Entrance Awards Application
  • The student only needs to submit one application in order to be assessed for every award that they may be eligible for

 UPDATE 2 – Nursing:  There are a limited number of designated seats in the Academic Foundations for Potential Nursing Applicants program.

 UPDATE 3 – Psychiatric Nursing:  A limited number of seats in the Academic Foundations for Potential Psychiatric Nursing and Bachelor of Science in Psychiatric Nursing programs are designated for Aboriginal applicants who self-identify as Aboriginal, meet the academic and the final admission requirements. Aboriginal applicants must contact Dave Seaweed, Aboriginal Coordinator, at 604-527-5565 or Tanya Joostema, Aboriginal Student Advisor, at 604-777-6188 if interested in being considered for a designated seat in the AFPN or the BSPN program. 

 HAVEN’T YET APPLIED TO DOUGLAS? IT’S NOT TOO LATE! Seats are still available in open enrollment programs such as General Studies. As always, the simplified admissions process means you need to:

  1. Graduate from high school
  2. Have a C or higher in English 12, or B or higher in Communications 

Capilano Info Night

EXPLORE CAPILANO UNIVERSITY INFO NIGHT – March 2, 2017

Grade 11 and 12 students are invited to Capilano University’s North Vancouver campus for their annual Explore Capilano Info Night. This is a great opportunity to learn more about Capilano’s programs, entrance requirements, and university transfer options. Students are encouraged to RSVP at explorecapilano.ca for a chance to win prizes. Free parking will be also be available.

BCIT Info Session

B.C.I.T. BIG INFO SESSION – Wednesday, March 1st from 5:00-8:00pm

If you’re interested in learning more about the programs offered at  B.C.I.T., this is a great opportunity and you won’t want to miss it!  B.C.I.T. has more than 400 programs in the areas of technology, trades, business, computers and sciences. This open house will take place at the Burnaby Campus and all students and parents are welcome to attend.  

Vancouver International Universities Fair

VANCOUVER INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITIES FAIR – April 30, 2017

 

This fair will take place on April 30th, 1-4pm at the Vancouver Convention Centre (East). This is a free event and open to all students and parents in B.C.  Last year, there were close to 200 post-secondary institutions from the US, Canada and abroad. ​ Students are encouraged to register in advance of the fair to be able to enter directly to the concourse on Fair day – otherwise they will have to register at the door, rather than enter immediately.

Course Selection Update!

  1. Friendly Reminder – Your Course Selection Sheet with a parent signature please hand in to your counsellor by FEB 28th and Online selection of courses is Due FEB 28th!
  2. Counsellors will be in the computer lab (Room 316) during lunch hour from Feb 20 to Feb 24th to assist students with their online course selection.
  3. Any Grade 10s or Gr 11s who missed the course selection presentation, a make up session will be held on  Feb 16th (Thursday) at 11:30 in the library.

Course Selection Presentations

Course selection has begun!!!

Below is the schedule for the upcoming Course Selection Presentations.  We encourage students to see their counsellor for individual consultation if they have questions regarding the course selection process, needing guidance regarding selection of courses and any discussion about post- secondary and career plans.  Students will be selecting their courses online, the portal will open up from Feb 6th to Feb 28th. Course Selection forms will also be given to students, which requires a parents signature and are Due FEB 28th and to be handed in to their counsellor.

FEB 7, 8, 9,10 –    Senior Presentations  Grs 10s in Period 1  &  Gr 11s in Periods  2
Feb 14, 15, 16 –   Junior Presentations  Gr 8s in Period 3 & Gr 9s in Period  4
Feb 20 French Immersion
Feb 21 Mini School
Feb 22 ELL

Counsellors will also be in the computer lab (Room 316) from Feb 20 to 24,  to help any students who need assistance to select their courses online or missed their course selection presentation.

FREE Green Collar Careers Conference for Students

Green Bricks is very pleased to offer to grade 10-12 students FREE participation in the 4th Annual Green Collar Futures Career Conference on Saturday February 18, 2017 at the Hilton Metrotown, Burnaby. 

*Space is VERY LIMITED (and a school limit may apply) so students can register at http://www.greenbricks.ca/futures/register.php.  Students MUST be registered by February 15, 2017 to attend this event but as it “sold out” last year we recommend registering as early as possible.

Explore your options on February 18, 2017 at this FREE green career conference for youth in grades 10-12. 

The “green economy” is changing the face of the workplace in BC and around the world. This day is dedicated to students in grades 10 – 12 to learn about exciting and endless career opportunities. Futures is much more than a career fair as it allows you to interact with career mentors from various sustainability related careers who have excelled in and are passionate about their green careers.

This interactive career workshop will be offered free of charge to 150 young people in grade 10-12 and will allow participants the opportunity to:

            • Meet and interact with amazing and successful people who will share their sustainability career paths in 5 breakout, roundtable sessions 
            • Learn about emerging sustainability career opportunities in BC and Internationally
            • Listen to an inspirational keynote address from Dr. Nicholas Coops, UBC Professor and Canada Research Chair in Remote Sensing for forest productivity and conservation
            • Meet the engaging green entrepreneur – founder of Abeego Designs Inc., Toni Desrosiers
            • Find out what it takes to reach your goals
