Summer Reading Burnaby Public Library:

This summer we are running the Reading Buddies program at Metrotown Branch and Tommy Douglas Branch.

Metrotown Branch; Thursdays, July 6 – August 3 from 1:00 – 2:30pm
Tommy Douglas Branch; Fridays, July 7 – August 4 from 2:00 – 3:30pm

Applications for both locations are due Thursday, June 1 and may be submitted to any Burnaby Public Library information desk.  Application forms are available to print here. In addition teens applying for either session will be expected to attend interviews Thursday, June 13 from 4 – 6pm or Friday, June 14 from 4 – 6pm at Metrotown Branch.Training will be provided to all successful applicants Thursday, June 15 from 4 – 6pm. Teens entering grades 9 – 12 are welcome to apply. For more information on Reading Buddies please visit the Reading Buddies webpage.

Reading Buddies is a program where teens and children are paired up for one-on-one reading in a safe, fun and friendly environment. The goals of this program are to provide children with extra reading practice and to provide teens with leadership skills and an opportunity to engage with community.


Seeking energetic, outgoing people of all ages to join our team!

 Celebrate Burnaby’s 125th and Canada’s 150th birthdays this summer by joining an exciting team of passionate volunteers as a Burnaby 125/Canada 150 Team Member!

As a member of this dynamic team, you will have the opportunity to sign up to participate in a great variety of community festivals and events to be held throughout the summer months.

You will participate at a 125/150 booth with activities, displays and fantastic giveaways to engage members of the public.

There is no minimum or maximum number of events you can join – just sign up for the events that work for you!

is looking for adjudicator assistants at their Music Festival from May 1-27th.

Pedalheads volunteers wanted:

 Details of the volunteer position:

  • Volunteers (Jr. Instructors) will assist instructors with teaching kids of various biking skill levels (ex. Setting up obstacle courses and riding with classes)
  • Must be available for at least one full week of half day camps
  • All those that apply to become volunteers (grade 8’s and 9’s) will be accepted!

Volunteer Recruitment

Richard Lee’s Campaign for Burnaby North MLA is currently recruiting volunteers for the following positions:

1 – Phone bank volunteers:   Mondays to Fridays from 5pm to 8pm, Saturdays from 10am to 1pm or 1pm to 4pm; volunteers are mainly responsible for conducting phone surveys and data input
2 – Door canvass volunteers: Mondays to Fridays from 3:30pm to 5:30pm, Saturdays from 10:00am to 1:00pm or 1:00pm to 4:00pm; volunteers will be divided into groups of 3 or 4, and will be doing door knocking with Richard.

Qualifications – fluency in English (additional language an asset)

Time Commitment – minimum two shifts per week

Duration: from January 16, 2017 to May 2017

Time of day – daytime, evenings and weekends
