Be Like Ishi

Hi Windsor Students and Parents,

Whether you are getting ready to come back to school on June 1st or whether you are planning on continuing distance learning with your classroom teacher, many of you may be feeling anxious and overwhelmed by the new normal and that’s understandable. As we journey through the pandemic together, we are all looking for tools to help us cope, making our days a little brighter. One such tool is the book “Ishi: Simple Tips From a Solid Friend.” This story has already inspired many teachers and students to create their own Ishi. Check out the ways Ishi makes himself/herself feel better below. How do you make yourself feel calmer or happier when you’re feeling anxious or sad?

Now that you’ve read the book, I challenge you to create your own Ishi. Go outside and find a rock or use something that’s special to you in your house. Ask yourself: How’ve I been feeling lately? or How do I feel right now? How do you make yourself feel calmer or happier when you’re feeling anxious or sad? Check out “create your own Ishi” for ideas and inspiration below.

Finally, show your Ishi off to friends, teachers and family. If you email me a picture of your Ishi I will post it on our library website for our school community to see. Make sure you do not include yourself in the picture or video, but do tell me your full name and what division you are in your email. I can’t wait to see what you create! Email me your Ishi at: liz.ward@burnabyschools.ca

Thinking of you all,

Ms. Ward
