TASK 1: Listen to the retelling of the book , “The Red Bicycle” by Jude Isabella, Illustrated by Simone Shin. This book is read and retold by Mme Yio with permission from Kids Can Press. Click on the Book to begin the video.
Task 2: Read and Write:
Write about your best bicycle ride ever. If you have never ridden a bicycle, create an imaginary bike adventure. Where would you go? Who would go with you? You can write your story as a book or as a comic starring – YOU! Send your story to Mrs. Kainth upon its completion.
Task:
Design a bicycle. Make it creative. Do you like pizza? It could be a pizza bicycle! Do you like the beach? Design your very own aqua-bicycle! Use your very clever imaginations!
Post a picture of it in your online portfolio.

Task 2: A bicycle is a compound or complex machine as it has several simple machines that are combined together to make it work. Take a look at the parts of a bike. (use a real bike or you can look at the images below). Brainstorm other examples of complex machines that use force, work and energy by us to operate.
Task: Go to an interactive map of Africa. You can use the one located at

Look at the map of Africa. Learn where Burkina Faso is.
What are the neighbouring countries (beside, above, on its borders).
Click on Burkino Faso. What is its population? What is its Capital?
Look carefully at the country’s details. Find one thing that Burkino Faso has in common with Canada.
CHALLENGE:
Using the maps attached, learn the countries of Africa. Label the blank map. It does not all have to be done this week, challenge yourself over the next few weeks to complete this challenge.
