I am the teacher-librarian at École Westridge in Burnaby.
In the library, classes have been studying Black History month. In particular we have been learning about the Underground Railroad; famous abolitionists such as Harriet Tubman and heroes of the Civil Rights Movement. For more information, the following website is very informative:

October 23rd is National School Library Day. Due to this being a Professional Development Day for our district, at Westridge we hosted a D.E.A.R. (DROP EVERYTHING AND READ) event today, October 24th in recognition of this special day!
After a read aloud over the PA by Mme Papapanagiotou and M. Kane, students, teachers and staff read in the halls, in classrooms and some even assembled outside. Everyone had fun!
The Westridge Scholastic Book fair runs September 20th and 21st from 12:15-12:55 and 1:45-5:00.

The Red Cedar Program runs from November until April every year and is open to all intermediate students (Grades 4-7).
Other information:
- All books nominated are written by Canadian authors
- Voting happens in April, 2016
- Winners are announced in late May
- To be eligible to vote, you must read a minimum of 5 titles
