Students who successfully master the learning outcomes of this course may continue on to Foundations of Mathematics 12.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This course follows the provincial curriculum, with an emphasis on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Emphasizing concrete activities and modeling<\/li>\n<li>Exploring mathematics through hands-on activities and technological devices<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3><span style=\"font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 300;\">A variety of topics that are related to applications in business, science, personal finance, and drafting<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 300;\">\u00a0Although the course explores many abstract concepts including algebra, it will not prepare you for university calculus.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Topics Include:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Logic and reasoning<\/li>\n<li>Functions<\/li>\n<li>Geometry<\/li>\n<li>Statistics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>For a complete description of the Foundations of Mathematics 11 curriculum, see the Ministry document at:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/curriculum.gov.bc.ca\/curriculum\/mathematics\/11\/foundations-of-mathematics\">https:\/\/curriculum.gov.bc.ca\/curriculum\/mathematics\/11\/foundations-of-mathematics<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Evaluation: <\/strong><br \/>\nGenerally, each chapter will include a project and a test. Typically,\u00a0projects will be worth approximately 40% of the term mark. Students will\u00a0receive several classes to work on each project. Most projects will have two students working together but occasionally projects will be done individually or by larger groups. Some tests may be open book<\/p>\n<p><strong>What type of\u00a0student enjoys and is successful in this course?\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nStudents who enjoy having time to work on a 2-3 week project will like this course. Students will need to be good at time management, coming in for\u00a0extra help, and working with others.
