Part of the challenge is that all children are developing their\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">e<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">xecutive function\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">skills.\u00a0These are\u00a0the mental processes that\u00a0allow us to\u00a0plan, focus attention, remember instructions, and juggle multiple tasks successfully.\u00a0Like\u00a0an orchestra conductor or an air traffic controller,\u00a0to\u00a0do\u00a0all\u00a0this the brain builds the ability to\u00a0filter\u00a0distractions, prioritize tasks, set and achieve goals, and control impulses\u00a0(self-regulation).\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">While\u00a0executive\u00a0functions\u00a0are\u00a0emerging\u00a0for all children,\u00a0they\u00a0can be more challenging for\u00a0students with learning and behavioral disabilities.\u00a0Executive functions\u00a0have a major impact on\u00a0a child\u2019s academic and social participation and success.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">There are many ways to help your child at home with developing their executive functions and independence. Try using <b>visual reminders<\/b> of the <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">morning, after school and\u00a0bed time\u00a0routines.
