TD Scholarship for Community Leadership

*** Note:  One of Burnaby North’s 2021 Grads won this one last year!***
CRITERIA

The TD Scholarship for Community Leadership awards students across Canada who are finishing high school, have demonstrated community leadership and have a minimum of 75% grade average (in grade 11). There is an essay writing component to this scholarship and has an opportunity to provide “extras” for consideration.

VALUE

20 scholarships@  $70, 000 over 4 years ($10,000/yr for tuition; $7,500/yr for living expenses).

DUE DATE

Online by November 15, 2021.

PROCEDURE

U of T Lester B. Pearson International Student Scholarship

Criteria

The international student nominee should be a creative thinker with an exceptional academic record, who demonstrates creativity, is recognized as a leader within our school, and exhibits the potential to contribute positively to the global community in the future. The candidate must intend to begin University of Toronto study in September 2022 and must be currently enrolled in full-time academic studies or have graduated no earlier than June 2021. Due Date

 Essay due to Ms Mihic in Student Services by 3pm on NOVEMBER 17, 2021 .

 

Procedure:

Interested students must write a 200 word essay describing how they are a leader in our school and 200 words on how they are a creative thinker. Essays must be handed into Ms. Mihic in Student Services by November 24, 2020.

Loran Award

This is highly prestigious scholarship focuses on character, service, and leadership. Please refer to their website in Procedures for more information. 

Criteria:

Note: There are new procedures for the Loran application. 

The Loran Award is one of the country’s most comprehensive merit-based undergraduate awards, valued at $100,000 over four years. Moving forward there will be a single application process, as opposed to our former dual system of school sponsorship and the direct pool. All eligible students will be welcome to apply by filling out the application, uploading a transcript, and naming a reference. School sponsorship is no longer required.

All successful applicants must be well-rounded students who present a minimum 85% cumulative average and demonstrate character, promise of leadership and strong commitment to service in the community.  Must be a Canadian citizen or have residency status.  This scholarship can only be used for a specific number of Canadian universities.

Value:

Renewable for up to four years, with a total value of $100,000, each Loran Award includes:

  • An annual stipend of $10,000
  • A matching tuition waiver from one of 25 partner universities
  • Personal mentorship from a Canadian leader
  • Access to our network and up to $14,000 in funding for summer work experiences in three different sectors
  • An orientation expedition through Algonquin Park
  • Annual retreats and scholar gatherings

Also grants up to 118 finalist and provincial awards to promising candidates who are not selected as Loran Scholars.

AES Scholarships

Criteria

This scholarship will be awarded on the basis of  character determined by the evaluation of a 500-1000 word essay based on the following question:

When you look back on your life in 30 years, what would it take for you to consider your life successful? What relationships or accomplishments will be important on this journey?
