The Ickabog – A New Story from J.K. Rowling

Calling all J.K. Rowling fans! The author of the Harry Potter book series has written a new story for kids…it’s called The Ickabog. She is releasing a few chapters each day online so you can enjoy reading the story bit by bit.

This story is not about Hogwarts, wizards, and spells… but I think it is still magical. J.K. Rowling really knows how to tell a story! If you are interested, you can read The Ickabog HERE

Also, if you love to draw, paint, create art… there is an illustration contest for this book! See details on the website, https://www.theickabog.com/home/  and maybe you can have your artwork included in a J.K. Rowling book!

As always, Happy Reading!

Almost Epic Squad books

Hi everyone,

This spring, Nelson school was going to welcome authors Ted Staunton, Richard Scrimger, and Kevin Sylvester to talk about their exciting Almost Epic Squad book series. It is a series of 4 books, all written by different authors, and it’s geared towards the middle grades (gr.4-7). Since we are not at school, I thought I’d include some of the information here so you can check out some of the books and activities on your own.

Click on the LINK to visit the Scholastic Canada website with Almost Epic Squad book descriptions, trailer videos, author information, drawing activities, and much more.

Also, you can visit Ted Staunton’s  Youtube channel  where he explains how to write books, draw comics, and more!

Happy Reading!

Red Cedar Awards

From the Red Cedar website:

“The Red Cedar is British Columbia’s Young Reader’s Choice book award.

Every year, thousands of children between grades 4 and 7 from across the province are invited to read books from the nominated lists of non-fiction and fiction titles and vote for their favourite.”

If you would like to read any of the Red Cedar 2013 books, you can find them in the red tubs underneath the Red Cedar bulletin board in the library.
