{"id":1093,"date":"2015-10-14T19:41:48","date_gmt":"2015-10-14T19:41:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/mountain-library\/?p=1093"},"modified":"2015-10-14T19:41:48","modified_gmt":"2015-10-14T19:41:48","slug":"cool-days-not-so-cozy-reads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/mountain-library\/2015\/10\/14\/cool-days-not-so-cozy-reads\/","title":{"rendered":"Cool days, not so cozy reads"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As the leaves are changing colour and the temperature drops, I am feeling more inclined to grab a cup of tea and curl up in a chair with a good book. \u00a0I have been reading a variety lately, fiction and non-fiction. \u00a0A couple of the library&#8217;s new books that I&#8217;ve dipped into are The Scorpion Rules by Erin Bow and Ink &amp; Bone by Rachel Caine.<br \/>\nThe Scorpion Rules is a dystopian tale, a world where peace is maintained by Artificial Intelligence. \u00a0Every country or self-governing state must send a hostage to the AI, the ruler&#8217;s child or grandchild. \u00a0Any time war is declared, the child forfeits his or her life. \u00a0The story is about one of the &#8216;homes&#8217; where these children are kept. \u00a0The AI maintains world peace &#8211; but at what cost?<br \/>\nInk &amp; Bone is from the steam punk genre. \u00a0In this version of the future, The Great Library at Alexandria controls all knowledge by governing its flow to the people. \u00a0Original books are outlawed; only the Library is allowed to have them. \u00a0Of course there is a thriving black market for illegal books, and Jess Brightwell&#8217;s family is in the middle of it. \u00a0Jess gets the opportunity to train to work for the Library, his father setting him up to be a spy. \u00a0He believes in the value of the Library but when faced with the reality of the Library believing that knowledge is more valuable than any human life, he has to make life-altering decisions.<br \/>\nThere are lots more new books to choose from. \u00a0Keep checking out the new Fiction and Non-Fiction shelves.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As the leaves are changing colour and the temperature drops, I am feeling more inclined to grab a cup of tea and curl up in a chair with a good book. \u00a0I have been reading a variety lately, fiction and non-fiction. \u00a0A couple of the library&#8217;s new books that I&#8217;ve dipped into are The Scorpion Rules by Erin Bow and Ink &amp; Bone by Rachel Caine.
