{"id":1025,"date":"2015-01-20T22:32:12","date_gmt":"2015-01-20T22:32:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/mountain-library\/?p=1025"},"modified":"2015-01-20T22:32:42","modified_gmt":"2015-01-20T22:32:42","slug":"mystery-books","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/mountain-library\/2015\/01\/20\/mystery-books\/","title":{"rendered":"Mystery Books"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This month we are featuring books from the mystery genre. \u00a0I have to admit that I chose mysteries because they are what I read for pleasure. \u00a0Each week there are different books in the display case &#8211; some of which are there because they are my favourites.<\/p>\n<p>Mysteries focus on a crime, often murder.\u00a0 There is usually a detective-type whose job is to solve the crime or an amateur who believes she or he can do a better job than the professional. \u00a0Mystery stories are great, in my opinion, because they have a concrete ending \u2013 the crime is solved and, usually, the perpetrator is found and will pay for their actions.\u00a0 The Moonstone, by Wilkie Collins, is generally considered to be the first English language detective novel.\u00a0 It was published in 1868.\u00a0 The most famous mystery novelist is Agatha Christie.\u00a0 She wrote over 80 detective novels, short story collections, and plays.\u00a0 She is the best-selling novelist of all time \u2013 only outsold by Shakespeare and the Bible.\u00a0 She\u2019s been translated into at least 103 languages.<\/p>\n<p>We have The Moonstone, several Christie novels (including And Then There Were None in Mountain Reads) and lots of other detective and mystery novels and short stories.\u00a0 Come and try\u00a0one for yourself from the cart near the circulation desk.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This month we are featuring books from the mystery genre. \u00a0I have to admit that I chose mysteries because they are what I read for pleasure. \u00a0Each week there are different books in the display case &#8211; some of which are there because they are my favourites.
