{"id":1486,"date":"2018-02-09T15:19:08","date_gmt":"2018-02-09T23:19:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/math\/?p=1486"},"modified":"2018-02-09T15:19:08","modified_gmt":"2018-02-09T23:19:08","slug":"math-on-district-pro-d-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/math\/math-on-district-pro-d-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Math on District Pro-D Day?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In addition to the ever-popular Carole Fullerton sessions (which are almost full), there are a few other good opportunities for teachers interested in math professional development next Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Financial Literacy&#8211;morning sessions by Vancity and afternoon sessions by Junior Achievement will both give you some good resources for financial literacy from Grades 4-12.&nbsp; Please check out these sessions.<\/p>\n<p>Integers for Gr 7 teachers&#8211;two Burnaby North teachers, Jenny Young and Jodi Drake have put together a great morning session on teaching integers using manipulatives and other strategies.<\/p>\n<p>A fun and engaging afternoon session will be led by UBC&#8217;s Dr. Susan Gerofsky&#8211;exploring the use of Gestures and Dance for teaching math.&nbsp; Participate in a dance to weave a braid.<\/p>\n<p>Burnaby Mountain teacher Jen Morrison is holding a morning session on&nbsp;Project-based-learning in math&#8211;which provides an authentic opportunity for students to connect with mathematics and develop a deeper understanding of the concepts we learn in class.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For those interested in offering Geometry 12 next year, Chester Leung will be hosting a workshop to explore historical tools for teaching Geometry.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In addition to the ever-popular Carole Fullerton sessions (which are almost full), there are a few other good opportunities for teachers interested in math professional development next Friday.
