Earth Day has passed, but the planet needs our efforts every day! This timeless legend, originating in South America, has been re-told by Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas in Haida Manga. It tells the story of the hummingbird who, though tiny, does his part to put out a forest fire. The other animals (like so many of us humans) feel overwhelmed by the enormity of the task in front of them. Can the actions of one creature make a difference? Can you? https://youtu.be/naj6zZakgEg

IT’S TIME FOR A VIRTUAL BOOK CLUB!
Hey, everybody! I hope you are adjusting to this new way of learning and not going too stir-crazy! I, for one, am quite happy not to rush around every morning getting ready and packing lunches, but I do miss seeing you at school. One thing is for sure- we all have more time for reading!
With that in mind, I am starting a book club for students in grades 4-7. I am focusing on books by Kate DiCamillo since her books are available online and also because she is one of my favourite authors alive!
We will be focusing on three books (you can choose how many you want to read) –
Because of Winn-Dixie (starting Tuesday, Apr 21)
Flora & Ulysses (graphic) (starting Thursday, Apr 23)
The Tale of Despereaux (starting Friday, Apr 24)
These books can be found on Tumble Books and Teen Book Cloud.

These books are also available on Audible (free for kids now) and the Burnaby Public Library (they have e-books and audio-books you can borrow).

So, go check them out and if you’re interested in joining, send me an email saying which book you want to read. Looking forward to connecting over some great stories!
Stay well,
Ms. Lynka
