It is another to\u00a0state the same with regards to the media rich world we find ourselves negotiating. Our students, staff and parents show up in our classrooms with varying levels of experience and opportunity to negotiate this digital world. It is a whole new world in many respects. The importance of teaching\/sharing digital citizenship just like we offer insights into citizenship and social responsibility is paramount.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/learningtech\/files\/2014\/04\/digifootprint_ed.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2974\" alt=\"digifootprint_ed\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/learningtech\/files\/2014\/04\/digifootprint_ed-233x300.png\" width=\"233\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/learningtech\/files\/2014\/04\/digifootprint_ed-233x300.png 233w, https:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/learningtech\/files\/2014\/04\/digifootprint_ed.png 596w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 233px) 100vw, 233px\" \/><\/a>Digital citizenship is a belief and value system that aims to empower students to think critically and make informed choices about how we use the new tools to create, communicate and ultimately treat each other.<\/p>\n<p>The digital citizenship journey can be divided into eight components: Internet Safety, Cyberbullying, Privacy and Security, Digital Footprint and Reputation, Relationships and Communication, Self-Image and Identity, Information Literacy, Creative Credit and Copyright (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.commonsensemedia.org\/educators\/curriculum\" target=\"_blank\">commonsensemedia.org<\/a>).\u00a0 Each component can stand separately or be easily grouped.\u00a0 The topics are interconnected and woven together to form a foundational core value.
