\"\"<\/a>\u00a0I’ve been talking a lot about creating “communities of practice<\/em>” where students see themselves as writers and that their voice matters. \u00a0It is not by accident that this happens. Rather, conscientious design create the conditions for freedom of ideas to flow in a risk-taking environment. \u00a0Support and scaffolding occurs at each step merging both online and face-to-face experiences.<\/p>\n

Jude Comeau’s class<\/a>\u00a0has\u00a0been working on writing and voice \u00a0via their\u00a0blog. \u00a0This post by one of the students reveal the amazing things that can happen when students are engaged in writing that matters. \u00a0This student reached out to her community with an idea\/plan that is part of her passion. \u00a0And her community responded. \u00a0What a memorable experience to have.<\/p>\n

Another student in the class is finishing her year in another country. \u00a0The\u00a0blog\u00a0became the portal that the student and her family continued their relationship and extended learning. \u00a0Her friends are able to capture a glimmer of a world across the ocean through her lens and conversations are maintained. \u00a0In fact, she decided that she was going to complete the same research project as her classmates. \u00a0The world has indeed become ‘flat’ as suggested by\u00a0Thomas Friedman<\/a>.<\/p>\n
