&nbsp;When students have multiple pieces of writing, they can choose which one they wish to take to the next level. &nbsp;Not every draft is worthy of the energy needed to revise.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><br \/>\nMINI-LESSONS THAT TAKE OFF<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Mini lessons provide a 15-minute intense teaching injection on a specific topic with lots of time for practice and assessment.&nbsp; These range in topics from making writing come alive, going deeper, using time to speed up and slow down the pace of the story, revising as a safe place to play with language, assessing&#8230;\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a title=\"Add Details\" href=\"http:\/\/wp.me\/p1gpjp-lv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Use Details<\/a><\/span><\/strong> to extend, expand, go deeper<\/li>\n<li>Great Beginnings &#8211; develop beginnings that entice, engage, inspire&#8230;<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/digisandbox.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/03\/mentor-texts3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"140\" height=\"150\"><\/li>\n<li>Revision is not editing &#8211; play with language<\/li>\n<li>Time elements &#8211; &#8220;speeding up in the boring parts, slowing down in the exciting parts&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Persuasion as a skill<\/li>\n<li>Conventions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>USING MENTOR TEXTS \/ TOUCHSTONE TEXTS<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Use &#8216;mentor texts&#8217; as examples of strong writing.&nbsp; These provide the platforms to strive and anchors our own attempts.&nbsp;<a title=\"Touchstone Texts\" href=\"http:\/\/digisandbox.pbworks.com\/w\/page\/28718981\/Touchstone%20Texts%20-%20Writing%20Workshop\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here<\/a> for some examples.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>CONFERRING<\/strong><\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/digisandbox.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/03\/speechbubble.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/digisandbox.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/03\/speechbubble.png?w=150\" alt=\"\" width=\"88\" height=\"88\"><\/a><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Considered the &#8216;powerhouse&#8217; of writing workshop, these conversations can be between teacher to student, student to peers, student to parent or any other creative combination.&nbsp; What holds all of these in common is the goal of &#8216;meaningful engagement&#8217; and &#8216;writing that challenges one to become stronger writers&#8217;.\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;I was inspired by&#8230;&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Organization of conversations &#8211; We all have these to keep us organized, help us remember what we talked to the student about, help us with our next focus lesson.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a title=\"Plan Boxes\" href=\"http:\/\/10.155.6.59\/learningtech\/2011\/04\/26\/using-plan-boxes-in-writing-workshop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Using Plan Boxes<\/a><\/span><\/strong>&nbsp;&#8211; such a little thing but pays off in huge dividends in keeping the students organized in their writing focus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr>\n<h2>Choosing the Platform for Writing<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a title=\"Using Google Docs\" href=\"http:\/\/digisandbox.wordpress.com\/2011\/02\/25\/love-writing-workshop-just-not-all-the-editing-and-papers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Google Docs<\/a><\/strong> is the most flexible in terms of incorporating the entire &#8220;digital writing workshop&#8221; process. While&nbsp;<a title=\"Google Docs\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/learningtech\/formsapply\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">accounts<\/a> must be created, the ability to invite editors, the focus of conferring embedded in the highlighter and comment features make this an incredibly powerful tool to promote writing of any sort.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>O365<\/strong><\/span> is another option and can be part of the Grades 4-12 experience.
