Emotional Freedom Technique

Posted on October 18, 2023January 11, 2024

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), also called tapping or psychological acupressure, is an alternative therapy addressing physical pain and emotional distress by restoring energy balance. Based on the concept of energy disruptions as the root of negative emotions and pain, EFT tapping has been applied to treat conditions like anxiety and PTSD, targeting meridian points, akin to acupuncture. EFT tapping aims to rebalance these energy pathways, potentially alleviating symptoms caused by negative emotions or experiences by accessing the body’s energy and signaling stress-regulating brain areas.

EFT steps to help you relieve any stress you may be experiencing:

  1. Think of the situation that is bothering you
  2. Rate how it makes you feel on a scale of 0 to 10 (10 being the worst)
  3. Create a statement that describes your issue, followed by a self-acceptance statement (ex: Even though I feel anxious about my presentation tomorrow, I deeply and completely accept myself)
  4. Tap repeatedly on the edge of your palm, below your little finger, while you say your Setup Statement 3 times
  5. Tap the rest of the points on your body one at a time as you talk through your negative emotion or situation
On the inside edge of one eyebrow
On the outside edge of one eye
On the bone under one eye
Between your nose and upper lip
Between your lower lip and your chin
    Your collarbone
Under one arm beneath your armpit
On the top centre of your head
  6. Stop and re-measure how you feel about the issue. Repeat if necessary
