{"id":2584,"date":"2016-02-01T12:00:44","date_gmt":"2016-02-01T20:00:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/fastforword\/?p=2584"},"modified":"2016-01-30T07:14:22","modified_gmt":"2016-01-30T15:14:22","slug":"citizenship-is-everyones-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/fastforword\/citizenship-is-everyones-business\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Citizenship&#8221; is Everyone&#8217;s Business"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>February 1st is the\u00a032nd day of the year in the Gregorian calendar, the day before Groundhog Day, <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/learningtech\/files\/2016\/01\/digicit_relationships.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4063 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/learningtech\/files\/2016\/01\/digicit_relationships.png\" alt=\"digicit_relationships\" width=\"269\" height=\"245\" \/><\/a>the day (1920) of the newly established Royal Canadian Mounted Police. \u00a0But more importantly, it is the official launch of our <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/digitalcitizenship\/\" target=\"_blank\">Digital Citizenship Initiative<\/a><\/strong><\/span> (K-7).<\/p>\n<p>While some may hone in on the word, <em>&#8220;digital&#8221;<\/em> implying that it is related to computer lab activities or technology classes,\u00a0we suggest it is plain &#8220;Citizenship&#8221;. And everyone is responsible for learning and modeling citizenship (both in-person and online). At the heart of this, resides the core values and beliefs that we all hold. \u00a0This in turn, drive our behaviours and actions.<\/p>\n<p>Citizenship is fully integrated in the new curriculum. It is embedded in the Core Competencies of <a href=\"https:\/\/curriculum.gov.bc.ca\/competencies\" target=\"_blank\">Personal and Social competency<\/a>. As well you will find targeted Curricular Competencies in every curriculum including the latest draft Applied Design, Skills and Technologies.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/digitalcitizenship\/\" target=\"_blank\">Digital Citizenship Initiative<\/a><\/strong> has been divided into themes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>February \u2013 Relationships and Communication<\/li>\n<li>March \u2013 Internet Safety<\/li>\n<li>April \u2013 Footprints and Reputation<\/li>\n<li>May \u2013 Cyberbullying<\/li>\n<li>June \u2013 Credit and Copyright<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Lesson launches are provided as starting points for teachers and students. As well, there is a <strong>FOR PARENTS<\/strong> area to explore at home with family. Keeping open communication is key to understanding how one lives and learns in all the environments we encounter. Schools have been invited to participate and share their class stories through school websites, principal newsletters, home communications, and PAC meetings.
