Are you a parent or caregiver with a young child who is learning English? Are you worried that your child may lose or forget their home language?<\/em><\/p>\n

Join us to learn practical tools to use in your daily life to support your child as they learn another language. We will help you keep your home language while learning new ones, and teach you best practices for raising a bilingual child.<\/em><\/p>\n

This virtual Zoom workshop is presented by Dr. Anne Rimrott from\u00a0Bilingual Family Consulting<\/a>, in partnership with\u00a0Literacy Now Burnaby<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n

New\/Nearly New to ELL Assessment Workshops<\/u><\/p>\n

Are you new or nearly new to ELL? Is this your first-time doing ELL year-end assessments? Have questions about the assessments? Want to learn how to make an AIP?<\/p>\n

Please join us for drop-in training sessions where we will go over the K-7 ELL year-end assessments and answer any questions you may have. You do not need to RSVP, just show up whenever it works for your schedule. Come to one or as many as you like!<\/p>\n

UBC Pilot Project \u2013 Primary Oral Assessment<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Burnaby is an active member of the UBC ESL Assessment Consortium. This group created the BERAs that we currently use. We are in the process of creating a new oral language assessment for K-3 and need your help! We need teachers to help us administer the assessment so we can norm the results and ensure that the assessment is valid and reliable.<\/p>\n

Requirements:<\/p>\n

Let Kiran know of your interest in participating by Friday, April 9th<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Attend a training session on April 15 (1:00pm \u2013 2:30pm) or April 20 (9:00am \u2013 10:30am).<\/strong><\/p>\n

Complete the IPT and new oral language assessment for 12 students.<\/p>\n

Send the results back to Kiran in the district mail by\u00a0Tuesday, May 18th<\/sup>. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Year-End Assessments<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Elementary teachers \u2013 if you haven\u2019t already, please complete the \u201cForm\u201d from Fanny to request your year-end testing materials.<\/p>\n

Thank you to all teachers who returned their extra IPTs! Our new order of IPTs has arrived. For those of you still needing IPTs for year-end assessments \u2013 they will be arriving soon!<\/p>\n

Secondary teachers- all documents have been uploaded to our shared Teams folder. Please get in touch with Kiran if you wish to use the BERA.<\/p>\n
