Still smiling…

It has been over a week now since our fabulous production of Beauty and the Beast and we are all still grinning about it!  The work that was accomplished was impressive and the students all rose to the challenge.  Strong work ethic, positive attitude, appreciation and love for the craft are the magic ingredients for a production of this scope.  It is with this in mind, we will think fondly about the amazing shared experience we had and remember “something there that wasn’t there before”!

Thank you to our dedicated and hard working staff, parents, community and most of all our STUDENTS!!  Feel proud! Be humble! and keeping moving forward!

Sincerely, Mrs. Ishii. 🙂

-volunteer drivers to transport props and sets to and from MJFox Theatre on Friday, March 2nd after school, Monday, March 5th before school, or Tuesday, March 6th after our 7:00 performance.

Please contact Mrs. Ishii ( if you are interested in helping out in any of these areas.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all our volunteers who have been sewing, gluing, filming, shopping, building, supporting….and the list goes on and on.  It truly takes a village!  Thank you!

Sewing Circle!

This afternoon Ms. McKenna held a noon hour sewing circle for intermediate students who were interested in making their own “mob cap” for Beauty and the Beast.  Well, first of all we learned that there are a great deal of math skills required in sewing!  Then there is a lot of precision and focus required to manage pins, fabric, elastic and scissors.  Tomorrow,  the students are going to tackle the sewing machines to finish their caps.  Stay tuned for more pics!

Guest Choreographer

On Wednesday, our students had the opportunity to meet and work with Susie Green!  Susie was one of our first artist-in-residence in our early years as an Education Through the Arts school.  Susie is an internationally recognized choreographer and master teacher in Dance and Movement Education. She teaches Orff music and movement as an artist in residence at schools in BC, Washington, Finland, Lapland, Moscow, Spain, and Australia. Susie has received 2 Global Arts Awards – (2002 & 2011) “for outstanding contributions to global arts performance and arts education.” In addition she received the Commemorative Medal of Canada for “contributions to community and country”. She continues to work in local and international schools as well as coaching and choreographing. She has sent over 3 dozen students to top jobs in dance companies, Broadway, film and TV. Susie inspires students of all ages to recognize and embrace their potential as creative movers.  Thank you for visiting us Susie!

Drama and the core competencies

Core competencies are sets of intellectual, personal, and social and emotional proficiencies that all students need to develop in order to engage in deep learning and life-long learning.  The craft of Drama addresses many of these competencies.
