UBC and other universities across Canada have been successful in increasing the proportion of women students, as well as growing the number of Indigenous students who choose engineering.<\/p>\n
This is great news and we will continue to do our part to encourage students from groups that have been underrepresented in the past to apply to UBC.<\/p>\n
One challenge is that students must have completed specific STEM courses in high school to be considered for admission. And that means they need have enrolled in specific math, physics and chemistry courses early on in their high school careers and continued to take these courses in higher grades.<\/p>\n
