{"id":298,"date":"2021-03-09T16:03:48","date_gmt":"2021-03-10T00:03:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/brantford-library\/?p=298"},"modified":"2021-03-10T11:09:29","modified_gmt":"2021-03-10T19:09:29","slug":"spring-break-activities-yes-there-are-still-some-available","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/brantford-library\/2021\/03\/spring-break-activities-yes-there-are-still-some-available\/","title":{"rendered":"Spring Break Activities (Yes there are still some available)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/brantford-library\/files\/2021\/03\/ambleside-4145899_640.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-300 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/brantford-library\/files\/2021\/03\/ambleside-4145899_640-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"201\" height=\"137\" \/><\/a>Although many usual spring break events have been cancelled because of the pandemic, there are still plenty of things to do around the Lower Mainland.\u00a0 Here are some that I have found that are free and none of these involve sitting in front of a screen!<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Granville Island<\/strong><\/span>.\u00a0 There is so much to see and do on Granville Island!\u00a0 You can grab a snack, play in the park, look at all the cool things the vendors are selling or make a craft.\u00a0 The Kids Market has craft workshops happening from March 15-26, 11:00 am &#8211; 2:00 pm on a first come, first served basis.\u00a0 Masks are mandatory and more information can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/kidsmarket.ca\/#welcome\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Parks.<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0 Yes this seems obvious, but we do have some of the most amazing parks around.\u00a0 Instead of your usual, local park, change it up and check out a new one.\u00a0 Maybe hit Burnaby Mountain or Deer lake and walk around the trails.\u00a0 Hastings PNE park has two skateparks, a fitness circuit, a sanctuary, two playgrounds and the Italian Gardens to explore.\u00a0 Go to Queen&#8217;s Park in New Westminster, which has loads of amenities.\u00a0 Ambleside in West Vancouver has a combination of beach, park, seawall and playground available, its beautiful!<\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Beaches.<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0 It <em>is<\/em> cold, but going to the beach does not have to involve bathing suits and swimming!\u00a0 You can go to a variety of beaches all over the lower mainland (Spanish Banks, Ambleside and New Brighton to name a few) to throw rocks, explore the sea life, picnic and make sand castles.\u00a0 Just make sure to bring a bucket and some rubber boots!<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Public Libraries<\/strong><\/span>.\u00a0 Ok, you had to know I would include this right?\u00a0 Yes libraries are open (even at a more limited capacity) and have loads to do and see.\u00a0 Even just spending a bit of time choosing some books to refresh your home reading choices would be a fun on a rainy afternoon.\u00a0 (See new policies and restrictions <a href=\"https:\/\/bpl.bc.ca\/news\/bpl-services-during-covid-19\">here<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>North Shore Culture Compass Treasure Hunt.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span> I am definitely trying this one out! Last year this was so popular, they launched it again! Using a map and some clues, your goal is to unscramble a word from a series of letters that you collect.\u00a0 You explore the heritage around North Vancouver&#8217;s &#8220;Green Necklace&#8221; and the collect letters following a printed or digital map.\u00a0 The walk can be done in about an hour but if you want a longer walk you just go beyond clue 6 and circle back to end at clue 7; the entire loop is 7.5km.\u00a0 The contest ends on March 15th, but you can still do the hunt after! You can submit your answer and get more information <a href=\"https:\/\/northvanarts.ca\/events-exhibitions\/culture-compass-treasure-hunts\/\">here<\/a><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Biking or Skateboarding.<\/strong><\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/brantford-library\/files\/2021\/03\/cycle-path-3444914_640.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-302 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/brantford-library\/files\/2021\/03\/cycle-path-3444914_640-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"172\" height=\"117\" \/><\/a> If you like to bike or board there are loads of parks and trails available.\u00a0 At Empire park (PNE) there is a dirt bike trail and the Leeside Tunnel skate park that runs under the Cassiar Street Connector.\u00a0 You can also follow the bike trail that begins there and head towards New Brighton or turn around and head into Burnaby instead.
