It’s December 18th, 2020, and as the rain falls in Burnaby, Ecole Alpha Secondary is wrapping up this tumultuous year and heading home for break. This year has taught us so much as educators. It has taught us how truly resilient we are. It has taught us that so much can be achieved through technology when necessary, but that nothing compares to being back in the building safely with our kids. And it has taught us that we will go great lengths for the education of our children. It has also taught us that we are strong, and that a pandemic will not stop amazing learning from happening. We have streamed, recorded, sung in masks, distanced ourselves, separated our art supplies. We have sanitized every surface and our hands frequently. We have embraced the culture of mask-wearing and found the kids are just happier being here. We will continue to be safe and be well, so that we can see their smiling eyes over those masks again in January. Whether it’s in quarters or not, school can still be a place of joy and gathering. The VPA department has truly embraced this joy and run with so many new ideas amidst these changes. Well done, department!
From our hearts to yours this December, we wish you all very happy holidays and a happy 2021! Here’s to hope in this new year.
