Young women in public safety internship:

What is Young Women in Public Safety?

This internship program was created by Government of Canada to introduce grade 10/secondaire 4 (Quebec) or grade 11 (rest of Canada) female students to the wide range of careers available to them in the public safety and security field. Selected candidates spend one week visiting public safety organizations where they meet women who are experts and leaders in this field. They see firsthand the exciting career opportunities available to them.

This year’s internship will take place from July 9–13, 2018. Successful candidates must be available for the entire week.

Where will the internship take place?

Selected candidates will have the opportunity to visit several federal public safety organizations in the Lower Mainland area such as:

  • Canada Border Services Agency
  • Canadian Security Intelligence Service
  • Correctional Service Canada
  • Parole Board of Canada
  • Public Safety Canada
  • Royal Canadian Mounted Police
The benefits of participating

This paid internship will broaden the students’ awareness of possible careers in the public safety and security field. The experience will help them plan their educational paths to excel in these careers.

Students will create a profile on the Federal Student Work Experience Program website, which will allow them to apply for student positions with the Government of Canada throughout their post-secondary studies.

Selected students will apply for a Security Clearance, which will be a great asset when applying for future positions with public safety organizations and any other Government of Canada department or agency.
