Photo Blog\" width=\"144\" height=\"202\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Discuss with someone: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Why do you think we use metaphors in conversation, songs, books, etc.?<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Do metaphors make understanding easier or hardier?\u00a0 (ex. think about someone learning English for the first time)\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Task 4: Open the attached PDF file and identify if each sentence contains a simile or a metaphor.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/westridge-library\/files\/2020\/05\/simile-or-metaphor-1.pdf\">simile-or-metaphor (1)<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Task 5: write a metaphor and a simile to describe something in everyday life that demonstrates that you understand the difference between the two devices. You must use the same everyday thing for the simile AND metaphor.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For example:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #444444\">Simile: The sun glistened like a diamond in the sky.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #444444\">Metaphor: You are the sun in my sky!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Simile:\u00a0 The class was as noisy as a zoo!<\/p>\n<p>Metaphor: It was a zoo today at the mall!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Task 6:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Find an example of metaphor in a print resource.\u00a0 This can be a book, a newspaper, a magazine, any PRINT material.\u00a0 It cannot be from an online source.\u00a0 Take a picture or recopy the metaphor.\u00a0 If you recopy the metaphor, you need to include where you copied it from (that is which book, magazine, etc.).\u00a0 Then, explain what the metaphor means and why it is a powerful one.
