WHY DO WE USE POETIC DEVICES? Remember, they are not limited to poetry. You will find hyperbole in advertisements, metaphors in speeches, etc.
TASK 2: Look at the following poem. What poetic devices can you find?
Author: anonymous
TASK 3: Look at this famous poem by Langston Hughes. Which poetic device is the most pervasive (used) inside this poem? Why is it so effective?
TASK 4: FINAL ASSIGNMENT
- Write a poem, any style, any topic.
- Your poem should be between 7 and 10 lines.
- Use AT LEAST 3 of the poetic devices we have studied this term.
- Proper spelling, grammar and punctuation are expected.
ASSESSMENT: Your poem will be assessed on the quality of the poetic devices; creativity; and accuracy.
