Final Assignment: Poetry

TASK 1: Discuss with someone (a classmate, a parent, your pet frog) the following:

WHY DO WE USE POETIC DEVICES?  Remember, they are not limited to poetry.  You will find hyperbole in advertisements, metaphors in speeches, etc.

 

TASK 2: Look at the following poem.  What poetic devices can you find?

TASK 3: Look at this famous poem by Langston Hughes.  Which poetic device is the most pervasive (used) inside this poem?  Why is it so effective?

Your Final Assignment - A "State of My Life" Assessment

TASK 4:  FINAL ASSIGNMENT 

  • Write a poem, any style, any topic. 
  • Your poem should be between 7 and 10 lines. 
  • Use AT LEAST 3 of the poetic devices we have studied this term.
  • Proper spelling, grammar and punctuation are expected. 

ASSESSMENT: Your poem will be assessed on the quality of the poetic devices; creativity; and accuracy.   Please indicate on the final project whether you consent to posting your poem on our Division 5 Poetry Brag Wall.
