{"id":2708,"date":"2018-06-05T16:50:51","date_gmt":"2018-06-05T23:50:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/southslope-library\/?page_id=2708"},"modified":"2018-09-07T17:16:21","modified_gmt":"2018-09-08T00:16:21","slug":"spring-2018-grade-2-3","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/southslope-library\/archives\/challenge-2017-18\/spring-2018-grade-2-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Spring 2018 Primary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This term grade 2\/3 students participated in a Challenge program for six, sixty-minute sessions in the library.<\/p>\n<p>Our Learning Intentions:<span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To develop core competencies of Communication, Personal Awareness and\u00a0Responsibilityand Critical and Creative Thinking<span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>To learn the design process: define, ideate, prototype, test, make, share,<span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Our focus this term was robotics and coding.\u00a0 First, students were given an opportunity to play with and explore block coding using both Sphero and Dash n Dot Robots.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/southslope-library\/files\/2018\/06\/img_0433.jpg\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2719\" width=\"1200\" height=\"1200\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/southslope-library\/files\/2018\/06\/img_0433.jpg 480w, http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/southslope-library\/files\/2018\/06\/img_0433-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/southslope-library\/files\/2018\/06\/img_0433-300x300.jpg 300w, http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/southslope-library\/files\/2018\/06\/img_0433-768x768.jpg 768w, http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/southslope-library\/files\/2018\/06\/img_0433-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/southslope-library\/files\/2018\/06\/img_0433-600x600.jpg 600w, http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/southslope-library\/files\/2018\/06\/img_0433-800x800.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Next, in teams, they were given a challenge\u00a0<span data-ccp-props=\"{\">to design a maze\u00a0and write a program for their robot (Sphero or Dash)\u00a0to travel\u00a0through the maze.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0Together we created criteria for the program which included forward\/backward movements, turns, light effects and sound effects.
