2013/14 Projects

January 2014

The grade two and three students In Division 6 have been learning about how they can use the iPads as a tool for learning.  They have explored apps like Daisy the Dino where they learned how to “code” and direct the actions of Daisy.  One student remarked, “It’s so cool because whatever command I give Daisy, she has to do it!”

Lastly, they used Book Creator to make short books about themselves and what they are working on in school.  They inserted photos, text, audio and even video into each page.  Working together, they discovered features such as changing their page background colour.  On January 20th we did a gallery walk of all their books in the library.  Everyone was able to read all the stories.

Afterwards we talked about what they noticed about their books, what they thought went well and what they would do differently next time.  A great learning experience for the students and teachers!

November 2013

For Remembrance Day, the students in Division 1 created a collaborative poem based on the book, Peace by Wendy Anderson Halperin. After they wrote their verses, each group used Haiku Deck to find images that matched their words or they created their own images. Then they performed the poem at our Remembrance Day assembly with the Haiku Deck.

Created with Haiku Deck, the free presentation app for iPad
