By \u201cdressing the part,\u201d dancers feel like dancers. \u00a0Dress codes can also create unity among the dancers instead of causing a few dancers to stand out, much like a school uniform policy. \u00a0Dress codes go a long way in minimizing distractions and help give classes a unified look.<\/p>\n<h2><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">TOPS<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Tank top (must have two straps)<\/li>\n<li>T-shirts (no offensive imagery or language)<\/li>\n<li>Crewneck sweatshirt (not too baggy, no offensive imagery or language)<\/li>\n<li>Hoodies &amp; cardigans (ok during warm ups only)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>*Students should be wearing something comfortable that will not shift when moving. Underwear should be covered.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/header>\n<h2><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">BOTTOMS<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Sweatpants (preferably not baggy)<\/li>\n<li>Athletic shorts<\/li>\n<li>Bike shorts<\/li>\n<li>Leggings (no jeggings please)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>*Waistbands must be elastic. Zippers and button closures can hurt yourself and others when dancing. Underwear should be covered. Absolutely no jeans or jeggings of any kind allowed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>FOOTWEAR<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In general, we dance in bare feet. Students are asked to take off their shoes before they enter the room in order to keep the studio as clean as possible for everyone.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Bare Feet: Socks tend to make students slip and become injured.<\/li>\n<li>Foot Undies: Ms. Wilson sells them in class for $5 a pair.<\/li>\n<li>Sneakers: Only clean indoor sneakers are allowed when performing certain types of dance.<\/li>\n<li>Dance Shoes: Some dances require specific footwear. The teacher will provide these to students.<\/li>\n<li>Knee pads are for sale in class for $6 a pair. Just ask Ms. Wilson.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>DO bring your own water bottle and wear clothes in layers<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0to accommodate for changing temperatures in the classroom and to prevent dehydration. \u00a0Keeping your body hydrated will prevent headaches and reduce the severity of muscle aches.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>DO\u00a0wear unscented deodorant<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0as you will sweat during class. \u00a0Your teachers and peers during the rest of the day will thank you.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>DO NOT wear<\/strong><\/span> hats, sunglasses, body spray, cologne, perfume, smelly hairspray, large rings, necklaces, large earrings, nose rings, tons of makeup, belts, chain wallets, chew gum, drink anything other than water in class, eat food.<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A dress code ensures that a teacher will be able to see a dancer\u2019s alignment and positioning. \u00a0The teacher needs to be able to see a dancer\u2019s mistakes. \u00a0Baggy clothing can mask bad habits, making corrections impossible. \u00a0A dress code will also teach discipline, helping with overall focus and energy.
