Through a progressive approach, students will build strength, flexibility, stamina, balance, and coordination. It is recommended that students also take an additional dance class, such as Dance Foundations, Dance Crew, or an after-school dance course, to continue building technical skills.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"483\" data-end=\"708\">The class is divided into two groups: one focusing on Hip Hop technique and the other on Contemporary technique. Students also have opportunities to create their own choreography, which may be included in future performances. Dancers work closely with actors, musicians, and production students as they prepare for the final school musical, which typically runs in March.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"549\" data-end=\"667\">Sessions take place after school at least twice a week. Students should have a foundational understanding of how the dance studio operates and be able to represent the Burnaby South Dance Program in a positive and professional manner.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"549\" data-end=\"1028\">Students may be paired with a dance class where they will learn to lead warm-ups, assist with choreography, support classroom management, and problem-solve various situations that may arise. In some cases, students may work directly with the teacher during an independent leadership block, helping with costumes, organization, choreography, and other behind-the-scenes responsibilities. This course is co-taught by Ms. Wilson, Ms. Dewar, and Mr. Hobbes and in conjunction with Theatre Production, giving students a wide range of opportunities in technical theatre and production design.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"786\" data-end=\"838\">Students choose one specialized\u00a0<strong data-start=\"818\" data-end=\"826\">crew<\/strong>\u00a0to work in:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"840\" data-end=\"1048\"><strong data-start=\"840\" data-end=\"866\">Stage Management Crew:<\/strong>\u00a0Oversees the entire production from start to finish, ensuring all crews stay on schedule. Stage managers also work backstage during performances to keep everything running smoothly.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1050\" data-end=\"1262\"><strong data-start=\"1050\" data-end=\"1069\">Marketing Crew:<\/strong>\u00a0Designs posters, websites, social media content, tickets, and show merchandise. This crew promotes productions in the school and community and assists with fundraising and donation collection.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1264\" data-end=\"1424\"><strong data-start=\"1264\" data-end=\"1284\">Set Design Crew:<\/strong>\u00a0Creates scenery and painted backdrops for productions. Students work together to build creative set pieces based on the needs of each show.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1426\" data-end=\"1551\"><strong data-start=\"1426\" data-end=\"1441\">Props Crew:<\/strong>\u00a0Designs or sources all handheld items performers use onstage\u2014from themed umbrellas to glow-in-the-dark props.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1553\" data-end=\"1690\"><strong data-start=\"1553\" data-end=\"1571\">Costumes Crew:<\/strong>\u00a0Designs, assembles, and organizes costumes. Ideal for students interested in fashion, sewing, or garment construction.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1692\" data-end=\"1879\"><strong data-start=\"1692\" data-end=\"1710\">Lighting Crew:<\/strong>\u00a0Learns to use stage lighting equipment, haze machines, and digital programming to create atmosphere for each performance. Works closely with Stage Management and Sound.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1881\" data-end=\"2052\"><strong data-start=\"1881\" data-end=\"1896\">Sound Crew:<\/strong>\u00a0Operates the soundboard, collects sound effects, programs cues, and runs audio during productions. Collaborates closely with Lighting and Stage Management.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2272\" data-end=\"2476\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Dance Production counts toward the Dance Scholarship requirement.
