We honour the achievements of our incoming international students through the <strong>International Leader of Tomorrow<\/strong> (ILOT) program.<\/p>\n<p>The ILOT Award recognizes international students who demonstrate superior academic achievement, leadership skills, involvement in student affairs and community service, recognized achievement in fields of endeavour such as the performing arts, sports, debating or creative writing, or external academic competitions and examinations.<\/p>\n<p>ILOT Award winners receive an award-level commensurate with their financial need as determined by the costs of their tuition, fees and living costs, minus the financial contribution the student and their family can make annually towards these costs. A standard needs-assessment is made, based on financial information provided by students and their families.<\/p>\n<p>The ILOT Award can be renewed for up to three additional years of undergraduate study, or to degree completion, whichever is less, provided the student achieves satisfactory academic standing in their faculty, continues to demonstrate financial need, and maintains their Canadian Study Permit (visa).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Criteria:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>be entering a UBC undergraduate degree program from a recognized secondary school, college or other university<\/li>\n<li>be admissible to the <strong>first choice program<\/strong> you are applying to, including meeting UBC\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/you.ubc.ca\/ubc\/okanagan\/elas.ezc?pageID=1417\">English Language Admission Standard<\/a><\/li>\n<li>have an excellent academic record (at least an \u201c<strong>A<\/strong>\u201d average or equivalent standard)<\/li>\n<li>be an international student, who is neither a Canadian citizen nor a permanent resident of Canada, and who will be studying in Canada on a Canadian Study Permit (visa)<\/li>\n<li>demonstrate a level of financial need that would otherwise prevent you from pursuing a UBC degree.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How Do I Apply?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Award candidates must be nominated by Mr. Chow<\/p>\n<p>If you wish to be considered for an award, speak to Mr. Chow.\u00a0 If you are accepted for nomination, Mr. Chow must use the ILOT nomination package available for download on the <a href=\"https:\/\/you.ubc.ca\/ubc\/counsellors\/ilot.ezc\">Counsellors' website<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Deadline:\u00a0<\/strong> <span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>January 31, 2012<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>international student humanitarian award<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The <strong>Donald A. Wehrung International Student Humanitarian Award<\/strong> (ISHA) recognizes outstanding international students from impoverished or war-torn areas, who have achieved academic excellence under difficult circumstances and who would be unable to pursue post-secondary education without financial assistance.<\/p>\n<p>The value of\u00a0awards is commensurate with demonstrated financial need, and sufficient to cover tuition costs for the relevant program of study, and living expenses. An ISHA award\u00a0can be renewed for up to three\u00a0additional years of undergraduate study, or to degree completion, whichever is less, provided the recipient achieves satisfactory academic standing in their faculty, continues to demonstrate financial need, and\u00a0maintains their\u00a0Canadian Study Permit (visa).<\/p>\n<p><strong>How Do I Apply?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All candidates must be nominated for an ISHA award. To be eligible, nominees\u00a0must be\u00a0international students entering university directly from secondary school and\u00a0eligible to study in Canada on a Canadian study permit. They\u00a0must also demonstrate superior academic achievement ('<strong>A<\/strong>' average or equivalent standing) and meet UBC\u2019s other competitive admission requirements.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re interested in this award, ask\u00a0Mr. Chow\u00a0to request a nomination package. Requests for nomination packages should be made\u00a0by email to <a href=\"mailto:international.counsellors@ubc.ca\">international.counsellors@ubc.ca<\/a>. Nomination packages cannot be\u00a0sent\u00a0directly to students.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Deadline:\u00a0<\/strong> <span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>January 31, 2012<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>outstanding international student award<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Each year, several Outstanding International Student (OIS) Awards are offered to meritorious international students entering undergraduate programs at UBC. Awards are offered on entrance only, and are not renewable.<\/p>\n<p>The exact number and level of awards varies each year, depending on available funding. OIS awards may range in value from $2,500 to $10,000 CAD.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Criteria:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To be eligible for an OIS Award, you must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>be entering your first year at UBC<\/li>\n<li>be an international student studying at UBC on a Canadian study permit (student visa). Changes to your citizenship status may affect your scholarship eligibility<\/li>\n<li>demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and strong extra-curricular involvement<\/li>\n<li>take at least 24 credits in your first year (September to April).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How Do I Apply?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There is no separate application for the award \u2013 students wishing to be considered for an OIS award should be aware that the information they provide in the \u201cpersonal profile\u201d section of the online UBC application will be used for awards adjudication as well as admissions decisions. Only students offered admission to the University can be considered for an OIS award.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How Will I Receive the Award?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Award offers are made by email in late August each year, with instructions for acceptance.
