UNIVERSITY OF OTTAWA: Faculty of Engineering Memorial Scholarship for International Students ($2000)

The Faculty of Engineering awards this scholarship to seven female students—one from each of the engineering programs (excluding computer science).

This $2,000 award is given to the applicants with a minimum admission average of 80% and who best fulfill the eligibility criteria.

To apply, students must submit a text explaining why they are applying to an engineering program as well as an up-to-date resumé highlighting their latest academic and extracurricular achievements.

UNIVERSITY OF OTTAWA: Faculty of Science Undergraduate Research Scholarship ($10,000)

The Faculty of Science awards 16 of these scholarships to the best eligible students.

This scholarship consists of two work terms with a research group at the Faculty of Science or the Faculty of Medicine (first work term = $3,750; second work term = $6,250).

Students must be registered full time in an undergraduate program at the Faculty of Science and have a minimum admission average of 90%.

They must also demonstrate research skills and involvement in extracurricular scientific activities.

To apply, students must provide recommendations from a science teacher, submit a 250-word text describing some of the ways they explore their passion for science and how they share it with others. Students must also be available for an interview in the spring.

HILARY WESTON STUDENT NONFICITION WRITING CONTEST

Grade 9 – 12 students are invited to enter this contest for young writers: grand prize, $2,500, + $1,000 for the winner’s school, publication of the winning work on Macleans.ca, and much more!

RE/MAX QUEST FOR EXCELLENCE - ESSAY BASED BURSARY

RE/MAX of Western Canada annually awards (16) $1000 bursaries to Grade 12 students in Western Canada.

Students submit an essay online (maximum words: 1250) on the contributions they have made to their communities

key qualities students should demonstrate in their essay are leadership, motivation and communication skills.

The contest is open for submissions from September 8, 2014 until midnight March 9, 2015.

ODENZA MARKETING GROUP SCHOLARSHIP

To be considered eligible for the Odenza Marketing Scholarship you must:

No late applications will be reviewed.

  1. Be between the ages of 16 and 25 on March 30th, 2013
  2. Submit answers to the essay questions, which can be found on the application page, prior to the March 30th, 2013 deadline
  3. Have at least one full year of post secondary studies remaining at the time of the award
  4.  Have a GPA of 2.5 or greater.
  5. Be a citizen of the United States or Canada

TREVOR LINDEN COMMUNITY SPIRIT SCHOLARSHIP

If you are a young British Columbian who has made a difference in your community, we want to hear from you!

The Trevor Linden Community Spirit Scholarship rewards students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership abilities and exemplary contributions and commitment to enriching the lives of others in the community.

Who is eligible?

The Trevor Linden Community Spirit Scholarship recognizes 4 student leaders in the province of British Columbia entering their first year of post secondary education, in good academic standing that have made exceptional contributions to:

  • School and community service, leadership
  • Initiating community development
  • Affecting positive change
  • Mentoring others
  • Personal development and growth
  • Good academic performance

Taking the time to do something for others during difficult times in one’s own life requires particularly outstanding commitment.

This is why, as part of the selection process, the personal circumstances and/or challenges of each applicant will be considered.

Applicants who posses personal qualities such as dedication, commitment to helping others and strength of character will also be considered

RETAIL COUNCIL OF CANADA SCHOLARSHIPS

There are 26 scholarships available this year – one $5000 Interac Scholarship in addition to twenty-five $1000 Industry-Sponsored Scholarships.

To be considered for one of the scholarships applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Enrolled full-time or part-time at a Canadian college or university Fall 2015
  • Pursuing a retail, business or marketing-related program
  • Currently working part-time or full-time within the retail industry

What is needed?

  • A reference letter (200 words max.) from current employer
  • A typed essay (500-700 words)

LEONARD FOUNDATION

All applicants will be considered but preference will be given to daughters or sons of ordained clergy, licensed elementary or secondary school teachers, Canadian military personnel, graduates of a Canadian Military College, members of the Engineering Institute of Canada and members of the Mining and Metallurgical Institute of Canada.

Preference is also given to those who have previously received an award from The Leonard Foundation.

Those still living with their families and whose gross total annual income, including "in kind" benefits exceeds $50,000.00 are not likely to be accepted.

Those applicants who have permanently resided outside of the family home for an extended period will be required to supply detailed financial information.

It is recognized that some of this information is somewhat personal; however, to fulfill the requirements of the donor, it is required.

If you do not wish to divulge this information, the General Committee will not be able to make a reasoned decision

BC HYDRO POWER PIONEERS COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD

The award recognizes young people who dedicate a significant amount of their time and energy to volunteering in their communities.

The inspiration behind the award is the continued efforts of Power Pioneer volunteers to share their time and knowledge with others.

Volunteerism is a foundation of the Power Pioneers Association.
