What Are the Nursing Programs Available in BC??

Below, you will find a list of Post-Secondary school which offer Nursing Programs.  Remember that quite often, Nursing Programs have wait-lists, and students are often not eligible for entry until after a few years of Post-Secondary Course Work is already completed.

BCIT

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree is a 3 year full-time (year round) program. There are two intakes per year in January and August.

Academic Requirements
  • English 12 (B) or three credits of a university/college first-year transferable English composition course with a (C+) and English language proficiency
  • Biology 12 (C+) or BHSC 0100 or equivalent*
  • Chemistry 11 (C+)
  • One of the following math requirements:
    • Principles of Mathematics 11 (C+) or 12 (C)
    • Applications of Mathematics 12 (C+)
    • Foundations of Mathematics 11 (B) or 12 (C+)
    • Pre-Calculus 11 (C+) or 12 (C)
    • MATH 0007 (C+)
Selection Process
  • Priority is given to applicants who have completed a minimum of 30 credits of post-secondary education, including a university/college composition course and 6 credits of introductory Psychology or Sociology (or 3 credits of each) prior to applying to the program
  • The Nursing program does not maintain a waitlist; the selection is by competition. BCIT does not guarantee admission to applicants who meet the minimum requirements. The Nursing program mandate is to select those applicants deemed to have the best opportunity for success. BCIT assigns priority to applicants based on the number of post-secondary credits and/or health-related work experience. Short-listed applicants must have at least one year of post-secondary education (30 credits).

To be considered for admission to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, with advanced standing, applicants must have a completed bachelor’s degree or significant progress (minimum of 48 credits) toward a degree in another field of study.

In this accelerated program, students enter at a level equivalent to that of third-year university and complete 81 credits in five consecutive terms. Because of limitations in clinical placements and resources, enrolment is limited.

Prerequisites
  • First-year English (3 credits): English 112 is recommended or an equivalent first year higher education English composition course.
  • Human Anatomy and Physiology (6 credits): BIOL 153 (7 credits) is recommended or an equivalent human anatomy and physiology course/courses.

Douglas College

Our Douglas College Nursing Program, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree Program (BSN), can be completed in approximately four years. The curriculum is based on the perspective of health promotion and caring. You are active participants in your own learning and individual interests are recognized and encouraged

Langara college

Starting April 1, 2011, the Langara School of Nursing will be accepting applications for the Fall 2013 term for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Nursing Transition programs. As there are new admissions requirements for 2013, please check Admission Requirements for complete details.

Kwantlen University

Students are encouraged to complete the non-nursing courses prior to admission or during the semester in which they are scheduled. The workload of the program makes it difficult to take these courses at any other time.

Applicants currently in high school must submit an official interim transcript by the third Friday of November for September Entrance indicating that the program academic admission requirements will be completed by the end of June
