The first intake of the new curriculum is planned for Fall 2013 pending approval by the Ministry of Advanced Education and the College of Registered Nurses of BC.

The curriculum is a 4 year program with a 1+3 structure.

The first year is the Academic Foundations in Nursing; this first year will provide students with a strong liberal arts and science foundation.

Applicants are required to successfully complete 30 University Transfer Credits with a grade of C+ or better in each of the ten required courses.

The remaining three years focus on the practice of nursing and nursing studies.

The University of Toronto (UofT) is coming to Vancouver to host an Information Evening for Students and Parents in Grades 9-11 on Saturday, May 12th at the Vancouver Convention Centre

This is the First Time that UofT will be hosting an information session in the Spring

Anyone interested in attending this event MUST go online http://uoft.me/infoevent and register your seat.

The event will include:

• 30 Minute General Presentation of UofT
• Informal Question & Answer with representatives from both the Mississauga & Scarborough Campuses & representatives from the Faculty of Arts, Science & Engineering

Check-in at the Convention Centre begins at 10:30am, and the session will start promptly at 11:00am

NOTE:  If you are AT ALL considering attending UofT in the future, it is IMPERATIVE that you pre-register and attend this event!!

Today you should have received your Course Verification Forms, which shows all the courses that you selected for September 2012 (if you have not, please go to the Front Office to get yours)

Please make sure that you look over these courses CAREFULLY….

If you want to change a course for September, please cross out the course you DO NOT want, and write the course you DO WANT beside that course….then hand in the Course Verification Form to the Front Office

REMEMBER…..

• ALL Students are required to take 8 Courses here at Burnaby South throughout the school year (an online course does not count as a course here at Burnaby South…neither does having “External Credits”)
• Only students with incomplete timetables or legitimate errors will be allowed course corrections in September 2012
• For Example:
• You have already completed a course (ie; in Summer School)
• You require a course for Graduation
• You require a course for University Entrance
• NOTE…the following are NOT considered a LEGITIMATE error…so make your choices CAREFULLY!!
• Not “liking” a Course
• Not “liking” the Teacher, or Not getting the Teacher you preferred to get for the Course
• Not having your friends in a Course
• You don’t like the time of day it is in your Timetable
• You change your mind

Please look through all of your courses…ask any questions to Teachers of that course, or your Counsellor…and hand in your Course Verification Form to the Front Office by Monday, April 23rd!!  <– YES…it’s a QUICK turn around….No Excuses!!

Pre-Calculus 12 ‘B’ – Math assessment tests and upgrading are also available

Chemistry 12 ‘C+’ – Chemistry upgrading is available

Physics 11 ‘C’ (Physics 12 ‘C’ recommended) – Physics upgrading is also available

Student should begin planning these courses in their tenth and eleventh year to be prepared to enter Douglas College.

All Science Degrees will require at least one University transferable English course for admission to the second or third year. For access to these courses students should have ENGL 12 ‘B’ including the provincial exam or successfully complete the Douglas College Computer-Based English Assessment, or meet the pre-requisite by another means.

This approach will allow us continue to deliver admissions decisions as soon as possible in a way that is fair for all students.

BC high school students who have applied this year will still be considered on their spring grade 12 marks, once we receive them from the Ministry of Education in May.

Applicants from BC high schools are encouraged to submit a Post-Secondary Institution (PSI) Choices form to the Ministry.

How UBC will use grades for 2012 BC high school applicants

This year, we will not be asking students to self-report their grades. We will provide 2012 applicants from BC high schools with two assessments:

• The first assessment will be in March and April, using academic information provided by the Ministry in mid-March.
• This would contain final official grade information for all courses completed to date, including grade 11 courses and grade 12 non-linear courses.
• No applicant will be denied admission based on this information, but students who present particularly strong academic records, in combination with strong personal profiles, will receive offers of admission in mid-April.
• The second assessment will happen in mid-May.
• All applicants will be reviewed based on academic information (like TRAX data) provided by the Ministry, as in previous years.
• Our understanding is that the May grades from the Ministry will contain interim grades for courses in progress.
• We will use this up-to-date academic information, in combination with personal profiles, to assess applicants who have not yet gained admission to their program of choice.

Next steps

The most important next step for all applicants currently in a BC high school is to submit your PSI Choices form to the Ministry to provide them with your permission to release your academic record to UBC.

This has always been a required step for BC applicants, but this year it is particularly important to submit as early as possible.
