data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0first.<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Even older children have a hard time with the question \u201cHow was your day?\u201d Instead of asking the question right away,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">model how you would answer by telling about your day first.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Think of your day like a story with a cast of characters, the setting, the problems you encountered, and how you solved them. Talk about it in simple terms. E<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">g., I<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0went to the grocery store with Grandma to buy\u00a0<\/span><\/i><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">bananas<\/span><\/i><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0but they didn\u2019t have any!\u00a0 We had to drive to another\u00a0<\/span><\/i><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">store<\/span><\/i><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and we found some there.\u00a0 I\u2019m so glad we found them so we can make banana bread for the bake<\/span><\/i><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">sale tomorrow \u2013 I was very relieved!\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"%1.\" data-font=\"Times New Roman\" data-listid=\"8\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\">\u00a0<b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Know your child\u2019s classroom<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0or regular<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0routines.\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Ask your child\u2019s teacher<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0or other adults who spend time with your child\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">about what happened that day or keep the classroom calendar handy. You can use this information to help your child to talk about his or her day<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0by filling in some of the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">information as a springboard for your child to tell their own narrative<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.
