BEES “STEAM” Scholarship

Criteria

The Burnaby Association of Exempt Employees (BEES) is pleased to be awarding three scholarships in 2025 to students graduating from a high school in School District #41 (District) who demonstrate diverse strengths, achievements, and contributions to their community and who meet the following criteria:

BEES Trades, or Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (“STEAM”) Scholarship
• Is interested in pursuing a career in Trades or STEAM;
• Been actively involved in the community, whether it be through volunteering or work
experience or other contributions beyond what is required for graduation reflecting their unique skills or efforts to support their community; and
• Has a need for financial assistance to pursue their education, for example, a student that must secure employment while attending school.

The recipient will be required to provide proof of enrollment in a qualified program in order to receive the
scholarship payment.

1 Burnaby District student @ $2,000 

Due Date

  To Ms. Mihic (paper or email) by 3pm on FRIDAY, APRIL 4, 2025 BEFORE 3PM .

Procedure
  • a cover letter stating why you are a suitable candidate for this scholarship
  • a copy of your Grade 11 and 12 transcript
  • resume
  • a reference letter(s) to support your volunteer experience
  • a reference letter(s) to support your leadership in the community

Michael J. Fox Theatre Visual and Performing Arts Scholarships

Criteria

Each year, the Michael J. Fox Theatre Society selects graduating Burnaby School District (SD41) students who have demonstrated exemplary aptitude for the Arts as recipients of the Michael J. Fox Theatre Visual and Performing Arts Scholarship.

Scholarships will be awarded at the discretion of the selection committee based on the
following criteria:

  • Demonstrated interest, dedication and aptitude in an arts or in multiple arts disciplines, e.g. dance, drama, music, visual arts, theatre, script writing, stagecraft, directing, media arts
  • History of school and/or community volunteering
  • Additional consideration will be given to students who face financial adversity pursuing their chosen post-secondary program

Applicants to the Michael J. Fox Theatre Visual and Performing Arts Scholarship must be:

  • a student graduating from a Burnaby School District (SD41) secondary school at the end
    of the 2024-2025  school year.
  • enrolled in a visual or performing arts course in a Burnaby (SD41) secondary school for the 2025-2026 school year.
  • pursuing a post-secondary Degree or Certificate in an Arts discipline.
  • a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Procedure

Completed Applications Packages must include:

  • Your completed Student Application Form
  • Short Essay Responses (Instructions in Application Form)
  • Your secondary school transcript
  •  A summary of your school and/or community volunteer activities
  •  Three (3) reference letters, including one from a teacher of the Visual and Performing Arts in your school
  • a Digital Portfolio
    • Include up to four samples from your portfolio or a maximum 5-minute audio or
      video compilation
    • Please access the form to upload audition/portfolio materials through the QR
      code below. You must use your Burnaby School District Credentials to access
      form (e.g. e12345@burnabyschools.ca and your regular District e-mail
      password).
