Jayson McLean Memorial Bursary

Criteria

Jayson enjoyed mentoring young students who had a love for Theatre. He wanted them to reach their potential and success in their lives through the Arts, just as he did.  To commemorate Jayson’s dedication to the Arts in his life, we are establishing a Bursary in his name for future Arts students in the Burnaby School District (41), who are pursuing their artistic passions in life.

Intended for students in Theatrical Arts, looking to continue study in post-secondary in a Theatrical Arts related field.

Value

$500 to a Burnaby School District student

Due Date

To Ms. Mihic (paper or email) by 3pm on FRIDAY, APRIL 4, 2025 BEFORE 3PM .

Procedure

Download or pick up a paper form and submit all forms, in order,  to Student Services or email to Ms. Mihic (dragana.mihic@burnabyschools.ca) by due date. Refer to “FAQ” tab > “Creating and Combining PDF documents” if you need help combining PDFs.

  • Completed application
  • Transcript of grades
  • Cover letter
  • Letter of reference from a teacher in Arts or Art-related capacity
  • Proof of post-secondary registration in an Arts-related capacity

Dr. & Mrs. A. H. Pontifex Scholarship

Criteria

The Dr. & Mrs. A. H. Pontifex Scholarship Award is awarded to a well-rounded student who excels in Science and has demonstrated good citizenship and leadership skills through voluntary participation in school and community activities.

The scholarship will be awarded to a graduating student from an SD41 – Burnaby secondary school who:

  • has maintained a good academic standing
  •  has taken a concentration of, and excelled in, courses in the field of Science
  • has demonstrated good citizenship and strong leadership in school and the community
  • has participated in community service and volunteer work in the community
  • has demonstrated a passion for, and interest in, pursuing a career in Science

The scholarship will be awarded upon proof of registration in a post secondary program focused in the field of Science.

Value

One scholarship in the amount of $500 will be awarded to a graduate from one of SD41 – Burnaby’s eight secondary schools.

Neil Sandercock Scholarship

Criteria

This scholarship is awarded to a graduating student who has suffered a brain injury or has a developmental or psychological impairment with a disability and has not only risen up against the odds, but demonstrated a commitment to continuing their education.  $500 will be awarded to a graduating student from a Burnaby school.

$500 will be awarded to a graduating student from a Burnaby school.

CUPE Local 23 Scholarship

Criteria

The CUPE Local 23 scholarship is awarded to one student in each of Burnaby’s secondary schools who meets the following criteria:

The scholarship will be awarded to a student who has:
▪ Maintained a good academic standing
▪ Demonstrated good citizenship in school and the community
▪ Participated in volunteer activities

Scholarship will be awarded to a student who is going on to a BC post secondaryor vocational training program. Consideration should be given to a student with financial need.

$500 to a Burnaby North student
