Post-Secondary Entrance Scholarships

Most post-secondary institutions offer some sort of entrance scholarship. For most institutions, all you need to do is apply to the institution; however, read through instructions carefully to see if you need to supply “extras” to be considered for a scholarship. Most institutions do not announce scholarship winners until late in the spring . Check out the list of institutions that have applications now open:

UBC – offers the Presidential Scholars Award (formerly Major Entrance Scholarship) of  a one-time award of approximately $5,000, and renewable awards of up to $80,000 payable over four years. Apply by December 1

SFU – open to domestic and international students and valued  from $10,000 up to an amount sufficient to cover tuition and mandatory supplementary fees. Initial application due December 15; supporting documents and references due by January 31st. Recipients will be notified from mid-March to mid-May 2021.

BCIT – offers range from $1.000-4,000. Most applications due April 15th.

University of the Fraser Valley – deadline to apply is March 10th. Check site for details.

Capilano University- deadline to apply is October 15th. Range in offers and criteria. Check site for details.

Douglas College – offers a variety of one-time scholarships or awards of up to $3,500, and renewable scholarships or awards of up to $20,000, payable over four years. Deadline to apply is March 31st.

Langara College – deadline to apply is February 2022.  Check site for details.

Kwantlen Polytechnique – TBA

OUT OF PROVINCE SCHOLARSHIPS

University of Toronto – deadline to for early application  in November 7th; regular application deadline is January 12th. Check site for details.

McGill  University – deadline to apply is February 7th.  Check site for details.

Waterloo University – deadline to apply is Feburary 1st.  Check site for details.

RBC Future Launch Scholarship

Criteria

For Canadian youth between 15-29 years old who are enrolled part-time in school or not in school at all. Grades and transcripts are not required! Must not work at RBC or a dependent of someone working at RBC.

Value

450 scholarships  @ $1,500 that can be used for workshops, courses, textbooks, certificates, etc.

Ken Michel Memorial Scholarship for Carpentry

Criteria

In loving memory of a man whose skill in the carpentry trade and the love of his people helped build the foundations of honour, pride, and strength in his community.

This scholarship acknowledges both strong work ethic and the desire to work towards the betterment of the community as a whole.

For students of Indigenous ancestry.

Thiel Fellowship

Criteria

Founded by technology entrepreneur and investor Peter Thiel in 2011, the Thiel Fellowship is a two-year program for young people who want to build new things. Thiel Fellows skip or stop out of college to receive a $100,000 grant and support from the Thiel Foundation’s network of founders, investors, and scientists.

TD Scholarship for Community Leadership

CRITERIA

The TD Scholarship for Community Leadership awards students across Canada who are finishing high school, have demonstrated community leadership and have a minimum of 75% grade average (in grade 11). There is an essay writing component to this scholarship and has an opportunity to provide “extras” for consideration.

VALUE

multiple @  $70, 000 over 4 years ($10,000/yr for tuition; $7,500/yr for living expenses).

DUE DATE

Online by November 15, 2021.

PROCEDURE

Apply online: https://www.td.com/ca/en/personal-banking/solutions/student-banking/community-leadership-scholarship-for-canadians/. You will need to include two letters of support from community groups, a letter of recommendation by school, and a copy of your transcript. Essay components as well.

Alexander College Scholarship for Indigenous Students

Criteria

This is an entrance scholarship for people of Indigenous ancestry, including First Nations, Inuit,
and Métis peoples. Two scholarships equivalent to 60 credits, including books, will be awarded
each year starting in Winter 2023. Students will be required to submit their scholarship
application package before the deadlines stated and need to have successfully gained
admission into the college before the Winter 2023 term.
Eligibility Requirements:
• Indigenous ancestry (First Nation, Inuit, or Métis)
• Canadian citizen, permanent resident, convention refugee, protected person
• Eligible for admission to the college (see Academic Calendar)
• Submitted scholarship application package before stated deadline
• Admitted to the college before term starts

U of T Lester B. Pearson International Student Scholarship

Criteria

The international student nominee should be a creative thinker with an exceptional academic record, who demonstrates creativity, is recognized as a leader within our school, and exhibits the potential to contribute positively to the global community in the future. The candidate must intend to begin University of Toronto study in September 2022 and must be currently enrolled in full-time academic studies or have graduated no earlier than June 2023.  Essay and transcript due to Ms Mihic in Student Services by 3pm on November 16th .

Procedure:

Interested students must write a 200 word essay describing how they are a leader in our school and 200 words on how they are a creative thinker. Essays and a copy of your school transcript  must be handed into Ms. Mihic in Student Services by November 16th. Students must intend to  apply to the University of Toronto by December 14, 2022.
