Daily Physical Activity (DPA)

NEW 2016-2017 DAILY PHYSICAL ACTIVITY (DPA) GUIDELINES FOR CURRENT GRADE 11 AND 12 STUDENTS
DPA is changing.  We no longer have access to www.LearnNowBC.ca to log your DPA, so here are the NEW school rules for reporting DPA.

DPA will now be reported ONCE a year, at the END of the school year.  You may use the attached form to report your DPA.  After having it signed by a parent or guardian for verification, hand it in by WEDNESDAY, MAY 31st to Mrs. Dato in room 313. If you are attending, participating, and passing a physical activity course, you do not need to complete this DPA log.  Your teacher will report your credit for DPA directly to me, but you must meet the criteria.

So, what do you do in the meantime?

     Plan and participate in a minimum average of 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per week throughout the school year. 

     Keep track of your activities in your school agenda planner or on a home calendar.

     In May, fill out the DPA Verification Log, get it signed by a parent or guardian. Hand it in to Mrs. Dato in room 313 on or before Wednesday, May 31.

     Before the end of September, check your report card attachment from June 2016 to make sure you are up-to-date with all of your DPA from last year.  See Mrs. Dato if not- she will help you get up-to-date.

Why are you doing this?

You are graduating under the 2004 graduation program requirements, where DPA is a ministry requirement, however, the purpose of DPA is to encourage you to add meaningful and purposeful physical activity to your lives in order to live healthy and active lifestyles, creating positive habits that lead to longer, fuller, healthier lives.  Some of you are already very active, involved in sports or dance, or other physical activities that keep you active throughout the year, however, some of you find yourselves too busy to go to the gym, go for a run or do a yoga class etc.  This program is targeting those of you who have a hard time working physical activity into your lives.  We want to put this at the forefront of your mind to remind you that physical activity should be at the top of your priority list, therefore, time must be made.

And one additional assignment #2 must be completed for EACH additional term missed.

Example: If you missed DPA for all 3 terms of last year, you must do 3 Assignments:
1 Assignment #1, and 2 Assignment #2’s
