Math on District Pro-D Day?

In addition to the ever-popular Carole Fullerton sessions (which are almost full), there are a few other good opportunities for teachers interested in math professional development next Friday.

Financial Literacy–morning sessions by Vancity and afternoon sessions by Junior Achievement will both give you some good resources for financial literacy from Grades 4-12.  Please check out these sessions.

Integers for Gr 7 teachers–two Burnaby North teachers, Jenny Young and Jodi Drake have put together a great morning session on teaching integers using manipulatives and other strategies.

A fun and engaging afternoon session will be led by UBC’s Dr. Susan Gerofsky–exploring the use of Gestures and Dance for teaching math.  Participate in a dance to weave a braid.

Burnaby Mountain teacher Jen Morrison is holding a morning session on Project-based-learning in math–which provides an authentic opportunity for students to connect with mathematics and develop a deeper understanding of the concepts we learn in class.

For those interested in offering Geometry 12 next year, Chester Leung will be hosting a workshop to explore historical tools for teaching Geometry.
