It is the middle of winter and the anticipated snow advisory came but not really. Over the weekend, EdCampBC – Core Competencies organized by Janice Novokowski and Carrie Antoniazzi moved online and this effort was not lost on the participants who attended. It really showed that there are significant positives as more people from all areas of the province and in the US were able to attend (teachers, students, and parents). The FETC online conference also showed a different way to organize learning. We can only imagine how wonderful our February District day will be this year.<\/p>\n

As we coordinate more idevices entering our schools, perhaps this is a good time to do a little micro update on great apps. These are all free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

Draw and Tell:<\/strong> <\/span>Great for primary and even intermediate, this app is all about storytelling and drawing. Create digital stories with the ability to record and move objects across the screen. Practice fine and gross motor control, story concepts (beginning, middle, end) and oral language development.<\/p>\n

*You might use this to share science steps, captured stories in story workshop, reflections of learning. This is an opportunity to empower voice.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Stop Motion Studio:<\/span><\/strong><\/span> This deceptively powerful app yet so simple is the ticket to bring toys or objects to life. The animation and movie editor allows a range of creative options to tell story. Every script requires a storyline (simple to complex).<\/p>\n

*You might use this to share the path of a cell, a “Wallace & Gromit” adventure, a journey through the Acropolis or teach a lesson.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Tayasui Sketches: <\/span><\/strong>Visual images tell a story that words may not be able. This artist’s toolbox has a large range of incredible drawing tools to create masterpieces. Import images and create a video of a process to aid in explaining a concept. Great for Intermediate and Secondary. Sketches School app is a junior edition for younger students-this app also works on older ipads.<\/p>\n

*You might use this to create sketches, drawings, or detailed explanations of imported photos. Use the video to watch the strokes unfold as you tell the story. The completed piece can be exported for use in other platforms. And YES, everyone can create.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
