Since ipads and ipod\/touches hit the district, I can’t count the number of times I’ve been asked what apps are great. I wrote about this previously (Apps<\/a>) using the lens of<\/span>\u00a0“Relevance, Thinking Skills, Sharing and Usability” (adapted by Tony Vincent; Kathy Schrock). Another layer may be to connect the app against the SAMR model<\/a> (a framework for how we integrate tec<\/span>hnologies).<\/span><\/p>\n

While there are millions of apps in the Apple Store, the following are apps that everyone should\u00a0consider\u00a0having as part of their basic toolkit:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"app_explaineverything\"<\/a>\u00a0Explain Everything 3.0<\/strong><\/span> ($3.99) – screencasting and interactive whiteboard that allows you to \u00a0annotate, \u00a0teach, narrate, animate. Exports to\/from anywhere which makes this incredibly flexible.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"app_bookcreator\"<\/a>\u00a0Book Creator<\/strong> <\/span>($5.79) – Create stunning ebooks that can be saved, uploaded, or saved as pdf. \u00a0Incorporate images, video, audio, music, text. Turn the pages to see the magic happen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"app_tellegamiedu\"<\/a>\u00a0Tellagami-Edu<\/strong><\/span> ($5.79) – Create a custom talking avatar to share story, lesson, teaching. Includes \u00a0backgrounds or draw your own. Products can be saved to the camera library. Great for oral language development and speeches (records up to 90 seconds). No in-app purchases needed.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"app_chatterpix_kid\"<\/a>\u00a0ChatterPix Kid<\/strong><\/span> (free) – Take a photo of anything and make it talk. Teach a lesson, share a story, \u00a0sing a song, do a rap. You’re only limited by your imagination. Share it on our class blogs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"app_voicerecordpro\"<\/a>\u00a0Voice Record Pro<\/strong><\/span> (free) – A professional voice recorder that saves in standard formats. Exports \u00a0to anywhere including camera library, YouTube (as a movie). (This is a phenomenal app to reflect on reading fluency.)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"app_photocard_billatkinson\"<\/a>\u00a0PhotoCard by Bill Atkinson<\/strong><\/span> (free) – Create postcards of information. Use the library of stunning \u00a0images or include your own. A great way to synthesize learning. Post a screenshot of your product on your blog.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"app_imovie\"<\/a>\u00a0iMovie<\/strong><\/span> ($5.79 or free with new ipads) – Create movies and edit using the editor. Have fun with \u00a0filters and multiple special \u00a0effects. Make a real movie trailer by using the templates. Great for storytelling.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"app_greenscreen\"<\/a>\u00a0Green Screen by Do Ink<\/strong><\/span> ($3.49) – Create green screen videos and images. Tell a story, teach an \u00a0idea, share a research project, be a newscaster and include an interactive weather map behind you.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"app_drawingpad\"\u00a0Drawing Pad<\/strong><\/span> ($2.29) – Create art using crayons, paints, markers and pencil crayons. Control the \u00a0tip sizes, use the blender tool to smudge and blend. Save to library or export the product. <\/span><\/p>\n

\"app_paper\"<\/a>\u00a0Paper by FiftyThree<\/strong><\/span> (free) – Sketchnotes are all the rage. Use this canvas for visual note-taking. \u00a0Express your ideas and save them in albums. (This app is more for personal devices.)<\/span><\/p>\n

\"app_wordpress\"<\/a>\u00a0Wordpress<\/strong><\/span> (if you use blogs) (free) – This is extremely handy to upload content directly from your \u00a0idevices. You can write directly onto a post and save as draft for editing. Or publish immediately.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"app_googledrive\"<\/a>\u00a0Google Drive<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0(free) – Another direct way to upload to your Drive accounts. Access your writing, \u00a0collaborate with teams any time, anywhere. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
