White background.\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/fastforword\/files\/2011\/10\/bookmark2-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"100\" \/> <\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bookmarking<\/strong> is probably the one of the most useful methods for gathering and storing a huge range of information. \u00a0Of course, the key is retrieving that content when needed. \u00a0More importantly in a classroom, you know your bookmarks have been vetted &#8211; a starting point for research and deep questions. \u00a0I&#8217;ve been playing with multiple platforms to bookmark content. \u00a0My criteria?<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>freely accessible\u00a0anytime,\u00a0anywhere \u00a0(online);<\/li>\n<li>organized so I&#8217;m not digging around a treasure box each time (unlike my desk);<\/li>\n<li>easily understood by my target audience (eg. students, teachers&#8230;).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong><a title=\"Symbaloo Education\" href=\"http:\/\/edu.symbaloo.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Symbaloo &#8211; Education<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0is a bookmarking platform. \u00a0The visual nature of the &#8216;<em>webmixes<\/em>&#8216; lend itself to an inclusive environment for every student.\u00a0 It presents a grid of tiles that the student or teacher clicks to launch the websites. \u00a0It has an RSS feed option, which takes the\u00a0tool into a whole new realm. \u00a0Organization is through colour coded tiles (or blocks), as well as the ability to move the tiles in anywhere on the board. \u00a0Each &#8216;webmix&#8217; theme can be further grouped by tabs (like tabs that separate subjects in a binder). \u00a0These boards can be shared online or made public\/private. \u00a0\u00a0Watch this\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a title=\"Symbaloo\" href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=axIx2PSkmn4\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">video<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0to see how it works.\u00a0\u00a0 Here is one of my public symbaloo <em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/edu.symbaloo.com\/mix\/connect-think\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">webmixes<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/em> on tools I think are great.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"symbaloo_webmix\" src=\"http:\/\/digisandbox.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/07\/symbaloo_webmix.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"233\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0 I have another one called \u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a title=\"Brain Stretches - Symbaloo webmix\" href=\"http:\/\/edu.symbaloo.com\/mix\/brainstretches\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Brain Stretches\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/span>,<\/strong> that\u00a0focuses on educational activities for the classroom. \u00a0Everything from arts &#8211; draw, paint, music creation, movies, science, word art, socials, math, puzzles, or story creation. \u00a0(I&#8217;ve even included tools for interactive projectors on the bottom row.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/digisandbox.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/07\/symbaloo_connectthink.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"symbaloo_connectthink\" src=\"http:\/\/digisandbox.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/07\/symbaloo_connectthink.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Even though\u00a0<strong><a title=\"Symbaloo Education\" href=\"http:\/\/edu.symbaloo.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Symbaloo<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0takes a bit of time to set up, I think there&#8217;s great value in a visual display to support learners. \u00a0 Imagine a webmix on<em>&#8220;animals&#8221;, &#8220;Ancient Egypt&#8221;, &#8220;math thinking games&#8221;, &#8220;writing tools&#8221;\u00a0<\/em>(no more writing out the web addresses for students!). \u00a0Link your <em>webmix<\/em> to your blog and you have \u00a0a one-click-stop for your students to launch their investigations. \u00a0Challenge students to come up with websites or articles that they feel is powerful learning to add to the webmix. \u00a0 I can see great conversations on the evaluation of web materials. \u00a0 If you plan on using this tool, I would suggest signing up for an <strong>Education Symbaloo<\/strong>\u00a0account.<\/p>\n<p>What kind of collection system do you use to store your bookmarks?\u00a0How do you share your weblinks with your students?
